New Volvo XC90 Comes With Two World Premieres Safety Features
|   Friday, August 01, 2014
The new generation Volvo XC90 that will be fully disclosed in August, will provide the most complete and technologically sophisticated automotive safety package which includes two world premieres, or so claims the company.

The new technologies will lead the Swedish company closer to its vision that no one will die or be seriously injured in a Volvo new car after 2020.
The standard safety package for the premium SUV with all-wheel drive and seven seats XC90 will include two world premieres safety technologies: a system of protection against accidentally leaving the road, and an automatic braking system in intersections.
These innovations will be part of a suite of security features that will make the new Volvo XC90 "the safest car ever built", the Swedish manufacturer promises.

Accidentally leaving the road (run-off-road) is a frequent cause of accidents for various reasons, from driver diverting attention, fatigue or adverse weather conditions. Volvo has developed a technology to protect occupants in these cases.

Volvo introduces the "Safe Positioning" ability, which means that in a scenario of involuntary leaving the road, the new Volvo XC90 detects what is happening, and seat belts for front seat occupants are preloaded to keep them in their places. Seatbelts are securely tightened while the car is moving. 50 percent of fatal traffic accidents in the United States involving a single vehicle involve leaving the road unintentionally.

To prevent spine injuries the energy absorb systems of the seat and the seat's frame of can be lifted when the car is "landing" on rough terrain. This solution is capable of reducing the vertical force acting on the occupant up to a third.

The new Volvo XC90 benefits from technologies that help the driver avoid getting off the road. "Lane Keeping Aid" revolves the wheel if the car is about to leave the lane unintentionally, while "Driver Alert Control", all in the standard equipment, detects and warns the driver if he is tired or distracted. The vehicle has the function of Rest Stop Guidance, which directs the driver to the nearest location to rest.

The new Volvo XC90 is the first car in the world with technology that provides automatic braking if the driver tried to turn in front of a vehicle that comes from the front. This is a common scenario in crowded cities and on highways where speed limits are higher. The new Volvo XC90 detects a potential crash and automatically brakes to avoid a collision or to limit the consequences in case of an accident.

The wide range of safety systems for the new Volvo XC90 also includes: Pre-crash protection in rear Impacts (protection in case of a rear impact), rollover prevention and protection (prevention and rollover protection), City Safety auto braking (automatic braking city), extended Road Sign information (extended road sign information), Blind Spot Information system (warning system in the neutral position), Queue assist (assist walking column - automatic pilot).

So far, Volvo has released some pictures with the interior of the new 2015 XC90 and provided few details about his engines. The world premiere will take place at the Paris Motor Show in October.
