New Renault Grand Scenic Revealed
|   Wednesday, June 08, 2016
After launching in March at the Geneva Motor Show the fourth generation compact van Scenic, about which the chief designer of the brand said it's "last chance for minivans to work", the French from Renault raise the stakes with the new Grand Scenic, a natural evolution in a 7-seater version of the compact family model.

The new Grand Scenic is 75 mm longer (4,634 mm), 20 mm wider (1,865 mm) and 15 mm high (1,660 mm) than the previous generation, while the wheelbase grew by 35 mm to 2,804 mm .

Similar to the Scenic, the new Grand Scenic comes only with 20-inch rims, while ground clearance is increased by 30 mm (160 mm), thus the sizes hint more and more towards SUVs. Obviously, much of this difference in size translates into improved interior space.
To ease access to the rear of the car, people at Renault have changed the size of the rear doors, which are longer than the Scenic.

The front seats are borrowed from the Espace and can be electrically adjusted in 8 ways, the passenger seat can be folded too in order to achieve a load length of 2.85 m. In combination with the optional OneTouch Folding Seats, that folds automatically the third-row seats, we can get a perfectly flat load surface.

What it differs from the Scenic, is the length, by up to 24 cm. This ensures 63 liters over its younger brother, to 765 liters, propelling it at the same time to the first position in the long version segment of the compact MPV.

For a family, connectivity can be a crucial element in choosing a car. This is why the Renault Grand Scenic leaves no room for discontent, thanks to the touchscreen display measuring 8.7 inches and the R-Link 2 infotainment system. From this screen all systems can be ordered, like on a tablet using icons in the most intuitive way possible.

But care for the family does not mean exclusive space and comfort features, but also safety. Because Renault aims to launch an autonomous car as soon as possible, a good part of semi-automatic driving systems are present on the new Grand Scenic.

We can find active braking with pedestrian detection, available as standard equipment, lane keeping assistance, detecting the degree of driver fatigue, Adaptive Cruise Control, recognition of road signs with warning, exceeding the speed limit, warning when vehicles are inside the blind spot, reverse camera, automatic high beam, and automatic parking.

The motorization includes diesel engines of 110, 130 and 160 hp and gasoline engines of 115 and 130 hp. In addition, there is a diesel-electric hybrid combination.

The electric motor is powered by a 48V battery that stores energy lost in deceleration and subsequently used in assisting the thermal engine. The benefits are obvious: lower fuel consumption, better performance.
The driver also has access to a Multi-Sense button, which selects one of the 5 preset driving modes: Neutral, Sport, Comfort, Perso, and Eco. These modes vary the throttle response, change the speed of gear change and adjust the degree of steering and suspension assistance, as well as the light shades in the cockpit in an instant.
