New Opel Insignia 2017 Is in the Final Phase of Development
|   Saturday, December 31, 2016
The new Opel Insignia Grand Sport is currently in the final phase of development. The official world premiere of the Opel Insignia Grand Sport will take place in March 2017 at the Geneva Motor Show.

The Opel Insignia Grand Sport has a completely new architecture and considerably longer wheelbase (over 9 cm), but thanks to shorter front and rear overhangs, is only 5.5 cm longer than its predecessor. At the same time it is almost 1 cm wider and has a ground clearance lowered by 3 cm.
These changed proportions confer to the Opel new generation a more athletic and more interesting appearance than ever.

But Insignia Grand Sport not only looks more athletic, but gives evidence of a high level of dynamism. Opel's engineers have focused primarily on increasing the efficiency of space and weight reduction: using lightweight materials, they managed to reduce the weight of the new model by 175 kg. Thanks to its optimized design, the interior space is generous and, of course, in the vehicle's equipment list are included many top technologies. Furthermore, there will be three bodywork versions: a hatchback with ample cropped tailgate, titled Grand Sport, a sedan and a conventional station wagon (Sports Tourer).

With the new Insignia Grand Sport, the company opens a new chapter in the history of its flagship models. In 2008, the previous model opened a new era in Opel's development and design - and has enjoyed huge success with the public: so far over 900,000 vehicles were sold, and the Insignia model was named "Car of the Year" in 2009.

At the IAA motor Show in 2013, Opel offered a perspective on the future of the automobile, with its visionary prototype Monza Concept: light weight, athletic, efficient and top connectivity - these are the characteristics of future Opel. The new Astra, which was immediately named "Car of the Year 2016" follows this philosophy. With the Insignia Grand Sport, Opel is launching another potentially successful model, which rises to these standards in a consistent manner.

The engine range will be renewed. Opel Insignia will be offered in three new petrol versions: a turbo with a displacement of 1.5 liters and 140 or 165 hp and a turbo with a displacement of 2 liters and 250 horsepower, available exclusively with all-wheel drive, and an automatic gearbox. For the diesel range, the power spectrum will be between 110 and 170 hp and the engine displacement is unique: 2 liters.

The next generation Opel Insignia will benefit from IntelliLux LED lighting. This new technology will replace the one that premiered on Opel Astra and will be improved visibly.

The new lights will have many functions that certainly will delight all fans of the brand. That means that Opel Insignia owners will benefit from 32 elements placed inside the LED headlamp, twice more than those available on the Astra.

The new LED lights are introduced in order to offer more comfort for people who drive a lot at night. At the same time they offer increased visibility, Opel claiming that these new lights will be able to light up 400 meters in front of the car. All these improvements come, according to statements made by the Germans, without disturbing in any way other road users.
