New Jaguar XE Official Launch On September 8
|   Sunday, July 20, 2014
The Jaguar XE is the spiritual successor of X-Type and will be officially unveiled at a special event in London on September 8, 2014. The British say that the front suspension of the sedan will be borrowed from the F-Type, while the rear suspension is a multilink.

Besides suspension the model will enjoy an aluminum platform and the first electric power steering system of the brand; these are the things with which Jaguar hopes to get the most maneuverable sedan from the class premium in the D segment.

Built on a completely new platform, which extensively uses aluminum, the new Jaguar XE combines performance, agile handling and precise direction with perfect levels of refinement. Unique in this segment, the linked suspension system provides major benefits compared to a conventional multilink design. With lateral and longitudinal rigidity suspension it provides a better response and more precise handling, while retaining the refinement and luxury travel.

Many components of the integral suspension link have been forged or cast from aluminum, helping to reduce weight. Mounted on an aluminum subframe, the double front suspension of the XE promises to provide the highest levels of maneuverability and perfect road holding.

In addition, the XE will also enjoy the Ingenium range of engines, and the most fuel efficient version will have CO2 emissions below 100 grams per kilometer.

Because all rear-wheel drive cars have problems on slippery surfaces, Jaguar has developed the "All Surface Progress Control" (ASPC), a completely new feature in its class. Developed with the help Land Rover, which has massive experience in off-road traction systems, the ASPC system can electronically retrieve the adherence in a more efficient manner. The system works like a cruise control at low speeds to deliver the best traction in the most slippery conditions without skidding and without the driver's intervention.

"It's a logical idea to use the momentum from Land Rover and expand the Jaguar range. Jaguar is less than half the size of Land Rover so they need to do something, plus investors will like a move downscale." stated Christoph Stuermer, IHS Automotive research director, for Autonews.
Thanks to this system, the model with rear drive should go beyond the BMW 3 Series in maneuverability, an area in which the Munich model is seen as a milestone of the segment to which it belongs.

It remains to be seen if the risks assumed by engineers will materialize into a success for the first Jaguar with power steering, an element designed to reduce the weight of the model and fuel consumption, but may have unfortunate effects on the overall feel provided by the steering mechanism.
The XE goes on sale in Europe in 2015, and will be available in North America starting in 2016.

"Jaguar vehicles' have always been renowned for a balance of precise handling and high-quality ride. The XE is the culmination of everything the company has learned over the years. The Integral Link rear suspension provides a combination of supple ride and crisp handling that is unmatched in this segment. We are on target to deliver a vehicle that dynamically outperforms our rivals" said Mike Cross, Chief Engineer of Vehicle Integrity.
