New Italdesign Giugiaro GEA Comes With Four Electric Motors And 775 HP
|   Thursday, March 12, 2015
The Italdesign Giugiaro GEA exhibit belonging to the Italian design house brought to the Geneva Motor Show a potential design direction in relation to an electric model placed in the luxury class.

The exhibit was created by a team led by Wolfgang Egger, former Audi designer and current Giugiaro chief designer, and is significantly higher than the current A8 generation. The concept has four electric motors providing a total of 775 hp, and its creators say it is capable of a top speed of 250 km / h, electronically limited to preserve range.

GEA has a body length of 5,430 millimeters, a wheelbase of 3,330 mm and a width of 1,980 mm. Thanks to the use of lightweight materials such as carbon fiber the bodywork is 1,460 millimeters tall, and has a mass of about 2000 kg. Those at Italdesign Giugiaro believe this is a better result than it first seems, because the four electric motors are powered by a battery pack that have a considerable mass and the body dimensions are also not negligible.

The alloy wheels, 26 inches in diameter, have 60 spokes, and each of them is made from a solid piece of material. Optical blocks use LED and Laser technology from Audi. This is the brand at which the chief designer Giugiaro worked before and one of the sister corporation of the Italian design house.

Italdesign GEA is a concept of the future, so it is a 100 percent autonomous vehicle that can be driven by human drivers with minimal intervention.
We say this because the wheel can be oriented only two degrees and it has three buttons to ensure complete control of the vehicle, without other relevant commands on board being present, except for two pedals. All vehicle systems can be controlled by a 12-inche touch screen and the board shows 3D holographic animations.
Because it is a concept, those from Italdesign have allowed the removal of the central pillars to ease the access to the rear seats.

Once on board, the occupants discover a cabin with three operating modes: Business, Wellness and Dream. While the first is easy to guess what role it meets, transforming the interior into a conference room on wheels, the second operating mode turns the inside into a mobile gym.

The screens it's fitted with can broadcast various instructional materials made by the Technogym company from Italy. This company has helped to adapt specific fitness centers equipment for the interior of this concept without apparent elements.

Dream Mode allows inclination of a seat back and its union with one from the front to form a bed while the vehicle is being driven by someone else or running in 100 percent automatic mode.

"In the near future, the real luxury will be time. When designing GEA we thought of the businessmen and businesswomen of tomorrow: the time spent travelling will become productive even in a car. With the three internal setting configurations, which can be selected on the control sphere situated between the two front seats, the car can turn into a travelling office, a wellness or a dream area. This is our vision of luxury mobility for the future" stated Wolfgang Egger, Head of Styling Area of Italdesign Giugiaro.
