|   Sunday, August 31, 2014
As some of you know, the Volvo XC90 is the beginning of a new era for the Scandinavians. The Volvo XC90 is the first model developed on the scalable platform SPA (Scalable Platform Architecture) and will be available with five different engines: two petrol units, two diesels, and the first hybrid will also be offered.

Those who prefer petrol engines, Volvo will be treating you with two supercharged units. The first of them, a T6, will deliver 320 horsepower and a torque of 400 Nm, while the second will be a T5 already known in the range, which will offer 254 hp and a torque of 350 nm.

On the other hand, those who prefer diesel engines can pick a D4 version, which will guarantee 190 horsepower and a torque of 400 Nm, which is approximately what we see today in the 2.0-liter engine on the S60 and XC60. This engine will ensure fuel consumption of about 5 liters / 100 km. The most powerful diesel will hide under the indicative D5, and will have 225 horsepower and a torque of 470 Nm. It will be enough for good performance, but it also announced an average fuel consumption of about 6 liters / 100 kilometers.

But the big news will be a XC90 Twin Engine hybrid version which combines a four-cylinder engine displacing 2.0 liters with a fully electric one. If the conventional unit will be spinning the front wheels, the electric motor will be responsible for the rear axle, which will get about 80 horsepower.

The two units together will guarantee 400 hp and a torque of 640 Nm. In terms of efficiency, the electric motor and battery will be able to provide pure electric driving range of 40 kilometers and charging from any domestic outlet. Furthermore, fuel emissions will be as low as 60 g / km.

According to the official press release issued by Volvo, the new XC90 benefits from the most luxurious interior ever built by the Scandinavians. Everything is gathered around a control console with touch screen, which forms the heart of a multimedia system built from scratch. This system is devoid of buttons and can access a number of Internet-based products and services.

To be worthy of the premium title, the XC90 offers its customers soft leather and wood, with hand-made details, including a gearbox and faceted start/stop function and volume control, all in Orrefors crystal from the famous Swedish glass manufacturer.

Also on the inside, we discover one of the best sound systems in the world, created by the collaboration between Volvo and British from Bowers & Wilkins, a company that also works with Maserati. The audio system includes one of the first air-cooled subwoofers for use in the automotive industry. It is integrated into the body of the car and thus transforms the whole interior into a giant subwoofer.

At launch the Volvo XC90 will be available with two different packages: Urban Luxury and Rugged Luxury. The first package, Urban Luxury, uses a body kit matching the color of the car with details of stainless steel, steel sills, and unique 21-inch rims.

Those who choose Rugged Luxury package get black outdoor accessories, sills with lighted stainless steel inserts, integrated exhaust tailpipes and 22-inch rims.
