New Honda Jazz Lands With Largest Trunk In Lower Segment And New 1.3-liter Engine

The third generation of the Honda Jazz small class has officially debuted at the Geneva Motor Show and will use Honda's new segment B global platform. Thanks to new coordinates in terms of size, the Jazz will benefit from the most generous offer of space from this segment and unmatched versatility.

Presented as a concept at the Paris Motor Show in 2014, the third generation of the Jazz model has launched the series version at the Geneva Motor Show alongside the new HR-V, the new Civic Type R, and the Honda NSX supercar.

In the style inaugurated for the first generation Jazz, the new model retains the MPV body type approach in order to provide benchmarks in terms of interior space, but added design elements that characterize the new Honda brand identity.

The new B segment platform (also used by the HR-V crossover), includes a number of important structural innovations, all with the aim of optimizing the maximum ratio between the inner and outer dimensions. The fuel tank has been placed at the front of the car. This situation allows the integration of a new system for folding rear seats, the Magic Seats, unique in the B segment.

The new Jazz is 95 mm longer and the wheelbase also measures 30 mm more compared to the previous generation. These dimensions allow the achievement of reference points in its class when discussing about passengers space (head / knee / shoulder).

Standard volume of the trunk measured 354 l or 884 l with bench seat folded (values are measured up to the glass surface). These figures rank the new Jazz first in the segment in which it belongs. As a standard volume, the new Honda Jazz can be compared with models from the next higher class. To complete the practical side, the tailgate opening is particularly generous and the load threshold is set as low as possible to facilitate the loading of heavy objects.

The innovative folding bench seat called Magic Seats allows customers to fold the bench seat, both horizontally (classic), but also in the vertical direction, ideal for carrying tall and bulky objects which cannot be stored in the trunk. The Magic Seats are unique in the automotive industry and used by the Honda HR-V and Civic.

The new technical platform used by the Honda Jazz allowed decreasing the total weight of the car compared to the previous model, while torsional rigidity was increased. The increased wheelbase is doubled by the new front/rear suspension structure and the recalibration of the shock absorber generates road holding which is characterized by comfort and maneuverability. The electrically assisted steering system has passed through a series of changes designed to improve the feedback offered to the driver.

The level of comfort assured to passengers has earned in the acoustic chapter too, with careful consideration given to the front part of the car and the lower area of the bodywork, which includes wind deflectors positioned under the floor of the car to optimize the aerodynamic resistance.

The new 2016 Honda Jazz will initially be available with a new 1.3 i-VTEC gasoline unit and it will produce 102 hp, which is part of the new range of advanced Earth Dreams powertrains compliant with Euro 6. The new engine will be mated to a manual 6-speed or an automatic CVT transmission.
