New Genesis GV80 Fuel Cell Heralds Future Luxury SUV

Hyundai unveiled at the Auto Show in New York a new Genesis premium product of its brand - the Genesis GV80 concept is designed to predict a future SUV.

Several months ago, Hyundai officially announced its intention to compete in the premium segment with a brand new setup, called Genesis after its luxury model sold in the United States. The South Koreans have already presented their sedan under the brand Genesis, the name chosen being G80.

Their target is the premium SUV segment, so the Genesis unveiled at the Auto Show in New York, which anticipates a potential 4x4 vehicle.
The prototype explores new lines of Athletic Elegance philosophy and inspiration from nature, which might very well be the GV80's destination.

The design concept is questionable, especially when viewed from front, where it comes with a semi mangle which has a funny spur at the bottom, reminiscent of a baby's smile sprouting teeth... Overall, it seems that Genesis is looking for a new style for its future models.

At this time, that doesn't really seem to have succeed, because in search of a new image, the designers came to draw inspiration from forgotten concepts. Generally, the concept is nothing new in terms of design, using ideas and concepts popular in the early 2000s.

For example, the "transparent" side pillars made in the form of a structure to reduce the dead zones, remind us of the Volvo SCC concept in 2001, which had the frontal pillars perform in a similar way. The same structure idea was used on the huge 23-inch wheels of the GV80 concept.

More than that, the extremely narrow optical blocks, especially on the back side hint at the Aston Martin Bulldog concept from 1979.
The Genesis GV80 Fuel Cell concept is equipped with a very advanced fuel cell propulsion which can provide a range of 800 kilometers. Given the scale of the SUV and luxury from interior, it seems that this model has also targeted the Bentley Bentayga!

The interior of the concept is more original. It offers four comfortable chairs and display for each occupant. The driver has at the front a digital dashboard, from which a curved OLED display measuring 22 inches extends.
The latter offers information for both driver and front passenger. The multimedia system is guided through a circular concave surfaces made of Gorilla Glass, which is located on the center tunnel.

The technology has been integrated into this futuristic interior and allows passengers to watch anything on their screens without bothering the driver.
The interior is lined in smooth leather and from the waist down, including the center console and floor, everything is made from ash wood. Stylish items made of metal can also be found.
"The GV80 concept is a SUV that alludes to the confidence and evolution of the genesis brand – its design is timeless, with an understated yet dynamic overall surface complexity," declared Genesis design boss, Luc Donckerwolke. "These are all characteristics that embody Genesis products and delicately reflect distinctive elements, which you'll continue to see in future models from our brand."
