New Generation Chevrolet Volt To Debut At 2015 NAIAS
|   Wednesday, August 20, 2014
The next generation of the extended range electric vehicle Chevrolet Volt will see its world premiere at the Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS – North American International Auto Show) in January 2015, according to the official announcement made by the American company.

The new 2016 model Chevrolet Volt, as the Americans call it, will be built on the original platform, the same that was awarded for technological innovation. The Volt's sales were up 13 percent in July, and more than 65,000 units have been sold since it was first launched on the market, becoming the most successful passenger plug-in model for the USA market, according to General Motors.

Volt customers drive over 63 percent of the time in electric mode and have collectively accumulated more than 500 million miles with zero emissions since the model debuted on the market in 2010. Over 25 million gallons of gasoline were saved this way.

Although the autonomy in electric mode is affected by temperature, driving mode and the type of terrain, the ease with which Volt owners have avoided gasoline demonstrates that the Volt can adapt to any lifestyle.

The Chevrolet Volt owners which regularly recharge their batteries run over 970 miles until the next gasoline refill, and refueling stations are visited less frequently, sometimes less than once a month.

The Chevrolet Volt also continues to attract new customers for General Motors. In 2013 nearly 7 out of 10 new customers chose the Volt, in detriment of Toyota's Prius, the main competitor of the American model.

As far as the new generation is concerned, GM did not disclose too many details besides teaser photos, but we can expect the new Chevrolet Volt to have a smoother design with curved surfaces.

The specifications also remain unconfirmed, but we expect the new Chevrolet Volt to have a 100 percent electric range significantly improved, maybe even reaching 100 km. According to previous information, the new Chevrolet Volt may have a cheapest base variant of about 30,000 dollars, with a smaller battery.

"Volt is the perfect example of the ingenuity that drives everything we do at Chevrolet. Volt fully delivers on the promises of Find New Roads and will continue to provide consumers with the transportation solutions they need and deserve in the future." Global Chevrolet Chief Marketing Officer Tim Mahoney declared.

Volt has received several awards of satisfaction from customers. According to an independent study recently conducted, the Volt is the most popular choice below 55,000 dollars. Owners are satisfied as well. In the past three years, a leading customer publication has reported survey results showing more than 90 percent of Volt owners said they would definitely buy a Volt again.

Among the awards received, the 2014 Volt was recognized for its safety. Thus, it received from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety the 2014 Top Safety Pick + designation for vehicles equipped with Forward Collision Alert system.

Founded back in 1911 in Detroit, Chevrolet is one of the largest car brands in the world and it doesn't seem it plans to stop growing anytime soon.
