New BMW 5-Series: Seventh Generation Is A Big Step Closer To Autonomous Cars!

2017 BMW 5-Series model has just been introduced and we have to tell you that it just reached its seventh generation.
This 7th generation continues the story of a star model by BMW, a model that in his previous six generations has sold over 7.6 million units.
It now has a new chassis which has been lightened by 100 kg, new suspensions, a lowered center of gravity and Integral Active Steering.

In addition it has aesthetic features which bring you closer to the latest models of the brand to hit the market and a new engine range BMW Efficient Dynamics.
The new BMW sedan will be released on February 11, 2017. It has a large number of innovations to surprise fans of the brand.
It is presented as a first step towards autonomous driving to the wide variety of driver assistance systems, which provide help not only in extreme or dangerous driving situations but also in other more mundane ones such as slow traffic or traffic jams.

Due to a series of radars and cameras, the vehicle is prevented from collision, cross traffic, involuntary lane change and possible side impact, in a way that could correct the direction of the vehicle.

Isn’t that enough? Moreover, BMW offers the option of active cruise control due to which the vehicle could move independently, maintaining the direction and looking at the vehicle that precedes it so that the driver could maintain a constant preset speed and brake only if there is a vehicle ahead.
As soon as possible it will resume the speed indicated autonomously.

The model has the new generation driving position iDrive, which has superior equipment. It has a 10.25 inches screen of high resolution including navigation, telephone and control of some vehicle functions as well as new entertainment systems. These same controls can be controlled by voice.
The head-up display is now bigger, up to 70% more projection surface, and displays traffic signs, phone lists, radio stations, navigation announcements and warnings of the assistance systems. For night driving, the vehicle features LED headlights as standard, with the option of being adjustable depending on the driving.

It has also been improved in terms of comfort, since the front seats have been integrated with a massage option and change of position by touch. The air conditioner is now independent in four areas and can improve the environment inside the car, something unusual in the current range of vehicles on the market, and has a new acoustic control.

It is a spacious vehicle inside, with great details of design for each of the seats. It has been designed not only as a vehicle of representation, but also for the whole family. In fact it is one of the few vehicles on the market that offers enough space for three child seats on the back seat.
Technology is one of the strengths of the new Series 5. Among the BMW Connected Drive offer we can find the ParkNow service through which you can book and pay for parking spaces, the On-Street Parking Information and parking assistant that can detect free space and park automatically.

Through Microsoft Office 365 users can synchronize their mail, calendar and schedule and control and manage them from the vehicle. You can even park from the outside thanks to the smart key. And at the end of each day the driver can receive a summary of his driving, in order to be more efficient on the next trip.
The new 5 Series debuts a range of engines, all of the BMW EfficientDynamics family, with modular design that allows them to combine power and efficiency thanks to BMW TwinPower Turbo technology. At the time of the launch, two diesel and two petrol engines will be available, all with automatic 8-speed Steptronic transmission, rear-wheel drive, with four-wheel drive as an option. Although the family is called the Series 5, each model will receive a different name depending on the engine that it incorporates.

As for gasoline options we can choose between the BMW 530i for a 252 hp 2.0 engine, 350 Nm of torque and consumption of 5.4 l / 100 km; and the BMW 540i that incorporates a 3.0 V6 engine with 340 hp and 450 Nm, which has a consumption of 6.5 l / 100km.

As for the diesel engines, we can choose between the BMW 520d which has a 2.0 engine of 190 hp, 400 Nm of torque and consumption of 7.7 l / 100 km; and the BMW 530d has a 3.0 V6 engine of 265 hp, 620 Nm of torque and a consumption of 4.5 l / 100 km.

And from March 2017 the 520d EfficientDynamics Edition will come with a 2.0 diesel engine with 190 hp and 400 Nm that will have a consumption of only 3.9 l / 100 km.
At the moment the price of each of the variants have not been disclosed.
