NCAP tests the safety of the upcoming vehicles in Europe
|   Saturday, December 01, 2012
NCAP, the European car safety standard analyzer, has announced the crash testing results for 15 vehicles launched this year and the Dacia Lodgy was included in the list. Most of the vehicles tested achieved five star safety results. However the Dacia received a poor three star rating. The Lodgy has been criticized on a wide scale for the absence of a Safety Assist Technology, which is an important part of any vehicle launched in Europe.

The success of the Lodgy could be hampered due to the poor review that it has received in its initial days, especially due to competition from vehicles such as the Citroen C4 Picasso and the Renault Scenic.
It was rather disappointing to see the Lodgy perform poorly at the NCAP tests, especially as it is sold as a Renault in many parts of the world.

The only factor which favors the Lodgy at the moment is its low pricing. The customers in the economy section will go for the Lodgy as it is within the budget. Even though the vehicle lacks some basic safety measures, it is easy on the pocket and economical. These will be the major factors affecting sales outside Europe. Land Rover on the other hand, despite scoring a healthy 91 percent in the NCAP crash tests, has decided to introduce the whiplash protection on its vehicles for added safety.

Cost reduction is an important criteria considering the time and cutting down luxury and performance features for reduction in costs in understandable. However, safety cannot be compromised on under any circumstances. The hybrid Volvo V60 also scored high even as it has gained weight by over 350 kg. Some of the other vehicles tested at the NCAP venue were the Mercedes Benz A-Class, Volkswagen Golf and the Ford Fiesta.

Volkswagen have installed the all new Multi Collision Brake System on the Golf which bring the Golf to rest automatically after a collision, hence reducing the chances of being damaged further. The Proactive Occupant Protection System also enhances passenger safety by predicting a collision prior to the accident and preparing the Active System in advance. However, the Golf still scored a lowly 71 percent safety rating due to the exclusion of the safety belt reminder.

Ford was highly praised at the occasion for installing the My Key technology in all its vehicles, which allows the owner to give a separate key to the driver. With the help of this feature, the top speed of the car can be limited apart from preventing the electronic safety measures to be turned off along with a range of other high end technological measures. This is a one of a kind product and engineers at Ford have come up with a great option for the chauffeur driven vehicles.

Some of the vehicles tested by the NCAP were the Dacia Lodgy, Ford Fiesta, Fiat 500, Ford Kuga, Mercedes Benz A-Class, Hyundai Santa Fe, Opel / Vauxhall Mokka, Mitsubishi Outlander, Range Rover, Seat Leon, Seat Toledo, Skoda Rapid along with a long list of other vehicles.
