Most Expensive Cars In The World Are Actually Used Cars
|   Wednesday, December 24, 2014
When we think about used cars the first thing that comes in mind is the low price available on the market, but there are used cars that reach tens of millions of euro or dollars.

The market for second hand cars can include models older than 30 years, and classic cars that could be worth more than a luxury residence. Here are some examples:
Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spyder Competizione, from 1960 was sold at the auction at Pebble Beach in 2012 in exchange for 9,079,249 euro.
The vehicle in question is one of the nine 250 California Spiders models with an alloy body. The car was first exhibited at the Chicago Auto Show in 1960 and at the sale it was in perfect condition, both aesthetically and technically.

Mercedes Benz 540K Special Roadster from 1936 is a copy sold in the same auction and is a German roadster which cost 9,472,741 euro. In this case we are talking about a customized car which had during its 76 years career only three owners, if we exclude the current holder.

Another example is the Ferrari 250 Testarossa from 1957. The Italian model was sold in 2009 at a price of 9,983,269 euro. The 250 Testarossa variant was built in only 34 copies. The model to which we refer to was the fourth gone out of the production line. The car took part in the Grand Prix of 1958 in Havana, Cuba, and finished the competition on the 13th place.

Ferrari 340/375 MM Berlinetta 'Competizione' from 1953. It was sold at an auction in Italy last year and cost 10,316,239 euro, being one of the 3 Ferrari 375 MM which attended the 24 hour race of Le Mans in 1953. Moreover, the car was driven by three world champions: Mike Hawthorn, Alberto Ascari and Giuseppe Farina.

Another model is the Ferrari 375 Competizione Spider-Plus from 1954. The current owner paid 14,813,357 euro at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year. The Ferrari 375 Competizione Spider-Plus was a model for racing with a 4.9-liter V12 engine under the hood. The model, which cost 14 million euro, finished in second place at the Mille Miglia race in Italy in 1954, the driver being Umberto Maglioli.

Mercedes Benz W196 from 1954. Sold at the Festival of Speed at Goodwood, this time in 2013, the racing car cost 23,818,117 euro. In this case it is a vehicle that was driven by multiple world champion Formula 1 Juan Manuel Fangio. Unlike most classical models present at auctions, the German model was sold with visible stains and a thin layer of dirt, as if they were rolling out straight from the track.

Another example is the Ferrari 250 GTO from 1962. The most expensive car ever sold was offered at the price of 30,657,102 euro at an auction at Bonhams' Quail Lodge in California this year. The Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta from 1962 is one of 36 cars the company built in the early '60s. For this car the originally anticipated price was 50 million dollars, but the final amount paid at auction was 36 million dollars.
