Mitsubishi ready with the ASX crossover
|   Sunday, January 13, 2013
Mitsubishi has plans to launch the revamped ASX in the British market and the vehicle will be showcased at the Detroit Motor Show 2013. The vehicle is practical, well priced, easy to maintain and affordable and this crossover has been carefully price ion its segment. The ASX is a practical crossover, unlike the Nissan Qashqai and Mitsubishi has worked on the basic interior layout of the ASX to make this vehicle better than the Qashqai in all respects.

The interior looks neat with a new dash board layout along with a new upholstery and fabric with stitches for finish. However functionally, the interior is totally Japanese and the plastics are hard and the console could have been placed better. However, the vehicle performs at par with its Japanese rivals although Mitsubishi could do with a new interior trim.

However, considering the overall attributes of any other crossover in the segment, the interior trim of the ASX can be pardoned. It is not offensive by any means although it could have been better. The ASX is a sophisticated beast from the exterior and the all new body colored front and rear bumpers work well with the overall look and feel of the car. However, the external features are not totally masculine and bulky and this differentiates the ASX from a standard SUV.

Even the Kia Sport Age, Nissan Qashqai or the Peugeot 3008 does not compare to this vehicle in terms of overall build and performance and as a result the Mitsubishi ASX is truly a winner in its segment. The engine and price of the ASX have been left unchanged and the 1.6 liter petrol engine displaces 115 BHP while the 1.8 liter turbo charged diesel engine displaces 114 BHP.

The diesel has been placed £23,000 below the petrol model and even though it is cheaper than the petrol version, it is at par with the other vehicles in all aspects. Although the smaller engines from Mitsubishi have always been quite loud and less refined, the 1.8 liter engine on the ASX is quite refined, although engine growl is a thing of concern.

The independent suspension installed in the ASX makes ride quality better and although the ASX is not a very comfortable car, it makes for a decent buy at its price point. The steering wheel is quite lightweight and not very direct. This calls for some unnecessary problems while driving. Body roll is present although that can be dealt with. However, Mitsubishi needs to develop stiffer chassis settings to make the ASX ride worthy.

Although the ASX is a lot better crossover in all sense, people would rather go for the Qashqai, 3008 or the Sport Age as these outshine the ASX in quite a few very important aspects. However, considering real world situations, the ASX would make for a better ride and Mitsubishi plans on improving the faults of the vehicle. Mitsubishi plans on revealing this vehicle at the Detroit Motor Show and a revamped model is expected quite soon.
