Mitsubishi Presents A New Plug-In Hybrid Compact SUV For The First Time In Geneva
|   Tuesday, March 10, 2015
The XR-PHEV II Concept is a new version of the small SUV that Mitsubishi wants to be the 2nd model with a plug-in electric hybrid PHEV system after the Outlander PHEV was launched in 2013 in Europe. It can be viewed at the Geneva Motor Show.

Mitsubishi drives forward development of its new generation of advanced technology, environmentally friendly, which is based on the key factors like environmental responsibility, driving pleasure, reliability and safety.

In its approach on technologies dedicated to environmental protection, the company concentrates its efforts on electric vehicles and currently is in the process of developing PHEV systems that can be adapted to each model in the range with the perspective of introducing such systems in the near future.

The new PHEV presented on the Mitsubishi PHEV XR II Concept is front-wheel driven, lightweight, compact and highly efficient, making it ideal for an urban crossover model. The system reduces CO2 emissions to just 40 g / km, one of the lowest values provided by a PHEV system, while ensuring top performance in terms of increased efficiency during the journey.

Benefiting from refined bodywork, which is due to the dynamic and sporty appearance and to the pronounced line that crosses the bodywork from end to end, the Mitsubishi PHEV XR II Concept provides valuable clues for the excellent performance the high power engine offers.

The front part uses a solid and attractive composition, which draws attention to how the central section, which shelters the main parts, is protected from both sides as well as underneath of the body. Front headlights and the ensemble of the taillights are positioned to highlight the attractive lines of the body. These design elements blend perfectly to present a new style, assigned to an urban crossover.

The passenger compartment appearance strengthens confidence in the excellent performance offered by this vehicle through the tactile and visual quality of the materials used.

The dashboard seems to be spreading to the sides like wings, starting from the solid center console where there are the most control functions. The sleek and stylish look of the inside, which is reflected in the dashboard, is revealed through chrome trims and dynamic lines that are distinguished from front to back.

The new PHEV system is designed to be used on front-wheel drive models and includes a MIVEC engine, a new electric motor/generator and a new control unit, all of which are mounted on the front. The traction high capacity battery is Li-Ion based and positioned under the floor in order to lower the center of gravity of the car improving stability and handling.

The PHEV system is designed to work primarily in electric mode, the combustion engine, which acts either as a generator or as a mechanical propellant, providing additional traction force when necessary. Depending on road conditions, and battery charge, the system automatically selects between electric, hybrid series and parallel hybrid modes.

By selecting Battery Save mode or Battery Charge the driver can drive in electric mode whenever he wants to do so.
