Mitsubishi Launches the Latest Generation Mirage Lineup
|   Tuesday, April 09, 2013
The latest model of the Mitsubishi Mirage has been showcased at the New York Motor Show. Mitsubishi claims that the Mirage has been designed using Mitsubishi's Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution better known as RISE. RISE uses high intensity steel to design a strong monocoque chassis and this enhances the safety feature of the Mirage. This keeps the weight to a bare minimum as well and as a result the Mirage weighs a total of 845 kg.

Mitsubishi claims that the exterior design of the Mirage has been through a lot of testing under the wind tunnel and this is the most aerodynamic super mini in the segment at the moment.
The refinement of the vehicle is greater than the Porsche Boxter and the aerodynamic efficiency of this vehicle is also quite high. Regenerative braking has also been introduced as well as reduction of the rolling friction of the tires.

The Mitsubishi Mirage sports two engine options, 1.0 liter petrol apart from a 1.2 liter variant. Both the engines consist of three cylinders and this develops optimum power for the rides. The entry level Mirage, sporting the 1.0 liter engine, is known as the Mirage 1 and features a smaller engine as compared to the 1.2 liter Mirage 2 or Mirage 3 variants.

All the engine options are mated to a five speed manual transmission system while sporting start / stop as standard. However, the five speed INVECS III CVT gear box from Mitsubishi on the Mirage 3 makes the difference in performance that the vehicle maintains with the Mirage 2. The Mirage emits less than 100 g/km of CO2 while fuel efficiency is in the range within 65.7 – 68.9 MPG.

Mitsubishi has designed the Mirage on a basic Zen theme to maintain the serenity of the vehicle. The vehicle is practical as well as elegant in its own way. Mitsubishi has installed high levels of equipment in the Mirage as standard and these include side airbags, USB compatible audio device, front electric windows, electric mirrors, remote central locking, front fog lamps, key less entry, etc. These features enhance the appeal of the vehicle in the market.

The 1.0 liter version of the Mitsubishi Mirage 1 starts at £8999 and this is standard for the base model of a vehicle. The 1.2 liter Mirage 2 starts at £10,999 while the CVT equipped range topping version – the Mirage 3 – is available for £12,999. The Mirage is set to put Mitsubishi back in the middle of the race and the company is hopeful of successfully selling the Mirage.

The Mitsubishi Mirage is in the same segment as the Volkswagen Polo or the Ford Fiesta and these vehicles are set to receive stiff competition in the market. The quality of the parts used in the vehicle is standard and the vehicle is set to spice up the market with its launch. It has been quite a while since Mitsubishi came with proper challenge in the market and this seems to be the perfect opportunity for the company.
