Mini Previews the Clubman Ahead of Geneva
|   Sunday, March 02, 2014
Mini has just revealed their Clubman, prior to an official unveil. The company plans on sending vehicles to showrooms by year end. Hence, final touches are currently being given. We had reports of Mini planning on launching this vehicle at Geneva this year, even as fans are waiting extensively for a one on one with this car. The production variant is quite similar to Mini's showcased concept, expect for a few minor touches.

Few exterior modifications have been made to this vehicle as compared to its predecessor, although these are mostly minor.
Mini's traditional barn style doors have been retained me even though a conventional front hinged frameless door structure is at the base of this design. Base dimensions of this vehicle are larger than most vehicles from Mini. Hence, their vehicles are quickly gaining popularity for attaining practical standards.

The Clubman is a very versatile design, with added levels of practicality. It is now expected to present better rivalry to hatch backs across a larger segment. The Clubman currently measures 4233 x 1844 x 1450 mm (length x breadth x height). This is a few hundred mm larger than their predecessors. As a result increased interior space is recorded, along with added boot capacity.

The Countryman was Mini's largest vehicle till now but it looks like the second biggest from Mini now. Styling features on a Mini is exclusive and the same is carried forward to this vehicle, without doubt. However, additional weight makes these vehicles unfit for off road journeys. Daytime Running Lights, 19 inch rims and tires as well as air curtains have been added to the Clubman, while tail lamps have been lifted by 90 degrees to give emphasize on its rear section.

The interior has a clean look with a sophisticated dash board in place. Use of premium materials such as chromed controls, leather trim and wood trims; provide an up market feel to this vehicle, although production variants will be a little less stacked. We are waiting to get our hands on a standard Clubman and should be able to quite soon.

Mini's traditional center dial is present on this vehicle too, while a high resolution screen is strictly in place. A dedicated instrument cluster behind its steering wheel is elevated, to provide better view up front. Driving position is quite comfortable, while sufficient leg and shoulder space calls for a comfortable journey.

Details of engine specifications are yet to be known, although it should be within a range of 1.5 to 2.0 liters. Petrol engines are likely to be offered first, followed by diesel variants. A hybrid variant is currently missed and we would love to see an electric powered Clubman. Standard six speed manual / automated transmission is available, while power displacements are unknown.

As compared to earlier variants from Mini, the Clubman is more precisely designed while bringing in a sense of practicality and efficiency to the group. We would like to see future variants based on this design principle.
