Mini Clubman Previewed - A Detailed Study
|   Thursday, March 06, 2014
Mini has re-launched their Clubman in a brand new avatar. The vehicle is expected to go on sale by year end and was showcased at the Geneva Motor Show this week. Minor exterior modifications, give this vehicle a whole new look, although some proportions look overly exaggerated. Even though we are not aware of Mini's plans with their production variant, rumors claim both vehicles are similar in more ways than one.

The new Clubman however does not look as traditional as its predecessors, because Mini has replaced their conventional rear hinged doors with frameless front hinged doors.
Mini has however retained the barn styled door panels from previous designs. Dimensions have changed which Mini claims will provide greater practicality to their design. The Clubman currently measures 4223 x 1844 x 1450 mm (length x breadth x height), which is approximately 260 x 170 x 25 mm (length x breadth x height) larger than previous creations.

Enhanced cabin and boot space should provide passengers greater comfort on long journeys, with suitable leg and shoulder support. Some very interesting external modifications have been made to this vehicle, including larger headlamps with Daytime Running Lamps, larger grille and bumper, air curtains and standard 19 inch sports rims. Extensive use of chrome, lends this vehicle a classic touch.

Headlamps have been given a 90 degree horizontal approach to give this vehicle a sporty appeal. Use of high end materials is Mini's patent characteristic, while there should be no visible flaws with fit and finish. We are expecting the production variant to be just as flamboyant as the showcased vehicle, as refinement along with a variable degree of finesse is a must of every vehicle manufactured by Mini.

Mini is currently operating under the trusted guidance of BMW. Hence, we can expect nothing but the best from Mini. The interior is composes out of leather, with occasional use of premium wood. Chromed interior panels reflect the sincerity of its overall design. The cabin has a warm feel, with controls clustered together to provide enhanced feel, along with easy access. Steering wheel mounted controls provide easy access too, while the overall seating arrangement, gives front row passengers and driver, a good and clear view up front.

Expected to draw power from a three cylindered 1.5 liter petrol engine, along with a higher placed four cylindered 2.0 liter diesel unit, power displacement figures are yet to be revealed. Every engine option is however, mated to a six speed automatic transmission system, providing proper power distribution per gear shift. Supple gear shift ratios enhance drive experience, as you can drive smoothly within city perimeters, as well as take it out for an all out spin on freeways.

Smaller dimensions made Mini a cult classic during the 20th Century, although much of that has changed over the years. Few basic features still make Mini a globally popular vehicle, even as insiders are trying to work on betterment, with each production model. Stay tuned as we get back with more information regarding Mini's plans for the future.
