MG3 Trophy Championship concept unveiled at Silverstone

British manufacturer, which was later bought by Chinese company, MG Motors UK limited is presently celebrating its 90th anniversary. To mark the occasion they have released concept of their latest racer named MG3 Trophy Championship, which might be best evolution possible in MG3 lineup and has a promising future lying ahead of it.

MG3 was a very standard, and one might call it rather boring, supermini. It had a very limited customer base and that did not include youths.
So to attract a few speed crazy people and a few others who enjoy a compact well designed car, this new iteration named MG3 Trophy Championship is released.

This car was released last week at Silverstone, and it was not one of the major releases. However, it managed to turn a few heads with a few design changes it had from supermini. It has a big spoiler at rear end and also a roll cage.

Red and black bodywork seems to be their favorite but there are some marked changes which shows that it has evolved into a racer. A 1.6 liter VTi tech turbocharged petrol engine is hiding under its hood and providing a bit more of power than before.

Expected power output is at 204 horsepower, which is 98 hp more than 1.5 liter Vti Tech engine earlier fitted in the supermini. Earlier torque was set at 136 Nm but now it has increased to 260 Nm or 192 lb ft. So that is a big improvement power wise.

Apparently with release of this concept racer, MG Motors UK Limited is trying to assess whether there is actually any demand of a MG racer in the market or not. For that purpose this car was showcased over the weekend in Stowe and GP circuits as well, by MG BTCC driver team of Jason Plato and Sam Tordoff.
There are some other changes in this car model as well. There is a limited slip differential and bespoke anti roll bars at rear end which has been added to this model. It was designed in a very short frame of time by engineers at MG but you can hope for it to be free from technical errors.

A fully adjustable front strut from Macpherson has also been added as a feature in this car. Then there is the adjustable front splitter and also twin adjustable rear spoilers. There is also a coil over suspension now.

MG has decided to cut down on body weight for this car without compromising with the rigidity of it, and have been successful in their attempt. So it should be an easy to maneuver kind of a car now, with better steering control and racer body design.

This car was designed at Birmingham, but not at MG Motors' Longbridge site. It was designed at SAIC's European Design and Technical Center, which is located close to the Longbridge plant. Hopes have been set high for the MG3 Trophy Championship, despite its weird name, and now it is a wait for it to be released.
