Mercedes to Launch Self Driving Truck In Near Future
|   Tuesday, October 14, 2014
Mercedes Benz can easily be termed as one of the leaders in passenger's vehicles, but they are also a force to be reckoned with in terms of commercial vehicles. Mercedes looks to take the truck world by storm as they unveil their design for the self-driving truck which will be released in the future. People in the company are excited about this new truck as they term it to be visually exciting and find the technology to be feasible.

"Future Truck 2025" this is the name Mercedes have given to their project.
The name gives us an idea that this truck is not going to be released anytime soon. The technologies used in this truck may not be far from present technologies used in Mercedes. This technology may mean end of human's driving. Some of you may also consider this technology as the start of the Machine Empire and downfall of mankind.

Coming back to Merc's future truck, it will have radar sensors built in it. These sensors will be used to scan front to end of the truck and the road ahead be it a short range of distance or long range of distance. The short sensors will have a range of 70 metres and will cover an impressive angle of about 130 degrees. The long range sensor will cover a distance of 250 metres and cover an angle of 18 degree. These sensors will help in the braking systems as well as the proximity sensors of the truck.

Mercedes have tried to leave no blind spot for the driver. So they installed stereo camera behind the widescreen and also installed blind spot assists system. These devices will help you to recognise if there are any pedestrians; dual or single carriageways and stationary as well as moving objects.

According to Merc's boffins, this truck does not need to be in a range with other vehicles to function as an automated driver. This self-driving feature will be connected to a network. This network will send the truck continuous data about speed of other vehicles as well their direction, position, etc. within a range of about 500 meters.

According to Mercedes, this truck will not only receive information from the network but also transmit traffic information to the network. These overall features will greatly help to make long distance journeys for drivers more comfortable. This technology is probably going to take some more time to hit the roads. The present law as in Vienna Convention of road traffic allows automated steering to only a speed of 6mph. But Mercedes already have cutting edge technology in this field as seen in the S-Class.

This automated truck by lorry standards, stands apart not only because of its automated feature but also because of its dashing looks. This truck's body is beautifully painted as is highlighted by LED lighting. While a driver is driving the led light is white in colour but when it is in automated mode, it turns into blue in colour. To your disappointment you won't find a red mode which enables destroys human mode.

Nevertheless you will find this truck one of its kind and truly awesome in every aspect. This is a truck that will change driving standards all throughout the world.
