Mercedes F 015 Luxury in Motion Shows German Company's Vision Of 2030 Cars
|   Monday, January 12, 2015
The Mercedes-Benz F 015 Luxury in Motion was the main exhibit of the brand within its stand at CES 2015. With regard to a presentation at the most important event in the field of IT in the US, the Germans brought on stage a concept that anticipates the future of technological elements that are being developed by them.

The new concept from Daimler is an autonomous vehicle that does not give up the classical commands placed in front of the driver, but can also drive itself without human intervention.
The German company compares autonomous cars with the achievements resulted when cars first appeared a century ago in relation to existing means of transport at the time.

This comparison is done both due to autonomous driving capabilities and autonomy thanks to impressive propulsion systems provided by fuel cells. The F 015 Concept Luxury in Motion presents the Mercedes-Benz vision for 2030. Then, in the world there will be over 40 cities with over 10 million inhabitants and autonomous cars and hydrogen powered vehicles that will be a common sight and a necessity too.

With this model, the designers had a free hand and chose to draw inspiration from nature. The exhibit received a body with a rounded shape, similar to an egg. The body has a length of 5,220 millimeters and a width of 2,018 millimeters, while the wheelbase is 3,610 mm and the height is 1,524 millimeters.

The rear doors open backwards for ease of access, and the body is optimized for aerodynamic drag coefficient. For added comfort, the Germans installed four chairs which can be rotated by electric control, enabling passengers to sit face to face, and this acts to ease access when the doors are opened by turning with 30 degrees outwards.

The vehicle cabin has a futuristic design, the floor is covered with wood, while the seats and board are encased in leather and have luxury finishes.
In the space formed in the center of the cabin, Mercedes-Benz has placed a thin table that seems to take the place of the traditional central console, around which passengers are seated. The rear window and side windows can be covered to allow passengers to be more focused on other things than driving, since the vehicle can drive any distance alone and without human assistance.

Board technology is not insignificant, the interior having six touch screens that are equipped with sensors that allow operation of these functions via voice commands or through gestures, in addition to touch gestures that have already become classical.

"Anyone who focuses solely on the technology has not yet grasped how autonomous driving will change our society. The car is growing beyond its role as a mere means of transport and will ultimately become a mobile living space" stated Dieter Zetsche, Mercedes-Benz boss at the unveiling of the concept.

The hydrogen used to generate electricity is kept at a pressure of 700 bar in 5.4 kg tanks that are said to be "integrated into the floor to keep them protected from impacts". Fuel consumption is set at 0.6 kg of hydrogen per 100 km (62 miles), the equivalent of 141 mpg with a diesel engine, at least according to Mercedes.
