Mercedes E-Class Gets New 9G-Tronic Transmission, Made In Romania
|   Monday, August 04, 2014
From September the Mercedes-Benz E-Class range will receive a number of changes, including the introduction of a new 9G-tronic transmissions produced in Romania, at the Sebes plant, and new standard equipment, like more powerful engines with lower emissions.

As part of Mercedes-Benz's 2020 growth strategy and increasing production of their vehicles in relation to markets and customers, the powertrain production network is made of several locations in Germany, and constantly being expanded with international production sites.
The main hub is the Untertürkheim plant, which makes engines, transmissions and axles at 6 sub-plants. The Berlin plant ships engines and the powertrain components while the Hamburg plant produces axles and various other components. The subsidiary MDC Power is responsible for engines in Kölleda, Thuringia.

"In Mercedes-Benz' global production network for passenger cars the Untertürkheim engine and transmission plant serves as a center of competence. From here the experienced production team has shared its know-how with the Romanian employees as part of a special qualification program over the course of several months. The great teamwork in the international powertrain team strengthens our competitiveness on a sustainable basis" stated Peter Schabert, Head of Production Powertrain and Head of the Mercedes-Benz Untertürkheim plant.

Mercedes-Benz developed the new 9G-Tronic transmission within the company, and will be coupled to the E 350 BlueTEC engine on the Sedan, Estate, Coupe and Cabriolet models.

This couple produces a significant emission reduction, by as much as 17 g / km CO2. Currently, these emissions range from 149 g / km for the Coupe, 154 g / km for Sedan and Convertible, and 159 g / km for the E 350 BlueTEC Estate. But the power was increased by 6 hp, reaching a total of 258 hp.

The 9G-Tronic automatic transmission is produced at the Daimler plant in Sebes, Romania.
Meanwhile, the E 220 BlueTEC also received an extra 7 horsepower, for a total of 177 hp, with a reduction in CO2 emissions by up to 16 g / km, while it is still connected to 7G-Tronic transmission.
The E 220 BlueTEC SE sedan now has the lowest CO2 emissions in the range with just 116 g / km.
The E 400 AMG Sport will be renamed to E 400 AMG Line and will see emissions reduced by up to 17 g / km CO2.

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class range will also receive a Collision Prevention Assist Plus system to reduce the impact of rear-end collisions as standard equipment. The system provides visual and audible warnings when a rear impact is imminent and the adaptive brakes and Pre-Safe system comes into action when the driver presses the brake pedal. If the driver does not respond to the warnings, the brakes are activated automatically at speeds of up to 100 km / h to reduce the severity of a collision.

Cars equipped with 9G-Tronic should accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.6 seconds, as well as lower fuel consumption significantly, which always is a welcomed boost.

The Premium and Premium Plus packages are available to customers at a price 27 percent better compared to separate purchasing of the optional equipment. Premium Package includes panorama roof, memory package, rear seat folded and reversing camera.
