Mercedes-Benz X-Class Presented Officially
|   Wednesday, August 16, 2017
The impossible happened: Mercedes-Benz has just turned a farm car into a luxury vehicle, with the release of X-Class (from XtraClass). Maybe it is the last one in the world of traditional pick-ups, but it is scheduled to cancel the gap that separates this model from its rivals, starting in October, when it arrives in showrooms around the world.

Inspired by concepts with the same name, the new X-Class is actually a Nissan Navara NP300, which debuted in 2015, and which received a Mercedes-Benz appearance.

The front is typical of Mercedes-Benz, with LED blocks, while the posterior features very small and non-expressive blocks. On the side, the tangents with the Japanese pickup are very high, the new X-Class has the same side window shape, the same rear doors and only the front doors are a bit different and the mirrors are the same with integrated direction indicators. The new X-Class will be available in three versions – Pure, Progressive and Power, where Pure is the basic version with unpainted bumpers, iron rims and simplistic interior.

Inside similarities with the Navara disappear almost entirely, however. The air intakes are taken from the A-Class, and the steering wheel and the dashboard, as well as the multimedia system with up to 8.4-inche display with the control wheel and touch pad, are the same as the C-Class. Only the archaic lever of the transmission on the central tunnel hint at the Navara, because the engines and transmissions (6-speed manual and 7-speed automatic) were taken over from the Japanese pickup.

The new Mercedes-Benz X-Class will be available with a 2.3-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that delivers 163 hp (403 Nm) with a single turbocharger and 190 hp (450 Nm) with two turbochargers on the X 250 d motor.

The engines are available with both rear and all-wheel drive, called 4Matic, which is actually the same traction as Navara. The most dynamic version is the X 250 d with rear-wheel drive and manual transmission, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 10.9 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 184 km / h. This is also the most efficient version with a combined fuel consumption of 7.4 l / 100 km. There will be a gasoline version, the X 200 version (165 hp), which will only be offered with right-hand drive, rear-wheel drive and manual transmission on specific markets such as Morocco or Dubai.

The new Mercedes-Benz X-Class has 5,340 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, 1,819 mm in height, a wheelbase of 3,150 mm, and a ground clearance of 202 mm (221 mm with optional off-road package). The wheels offered will be 17, 18 or 19 inches wide. Depending on the version the maximum load that can carry ranges from 991 kg to 1,042 kg.

The biggest load can be carried by the the X 220 d model, with rear-wheel drive and manual transmission. The new X-Class can tow trailers with a total weight of 1,650 kg to 3,500 kg, again, depending on the chosen version.

The new Mercedes-Benz X-Class will be produced at the Nissan plant in Barcelona, Spain, along with the Navara NP300, and from 2019 at the Renault plant in Cordoba, Argentina, together with the Renault Alaskan - another Navara clone.

The new X-Class will be sold in Argentina, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK and Europe. In Germany, the prices for the pick-up will start at 37,294 euros.
