Mercedes Benz Working on CLS Styled CLA Shooting Brake
|   Thursday, January 23, 2014
Mercedes Benz is currently working on a new project involving a CLS Shooting Brake styled CLA. Spy images of a vehicle were spotted testing recently and this vehicle crossed our minds first. First confirmed back in 2012, this vehicle never made it into production. It is based on the MFA platform, designed by engineers at Mercedes Benz. This vehicle is currently in its fifth generation and it shares similar design characteristics as A Class, B Class and GLA vehicles.

Latest vehicles in their CLA lineup are based on similar technology, even though it is based on an all wheel drive train, with optional front wheel drive train. CLA Shooting Brake is a relatively new idea, which was conceived keeping in mind, its larger cousin. Similarities are hence inevitable. However, both vehicles share a specific line of unique characteristics, which lend them their identities.

Side panels on the CLA Shooting Brake are quite evident, followed by their larger yet agile stance. Similarities in their roof line and light patterns are found, while we expect Daytime Running Lights and instrument cluster to be borrowed from CLS models. Heavy camouflaging prevented us from taking a closer look at detailed exterior features. Hence, we are unable to comment on superior aerodynamics.

However, considering the fact that it is Mercedes Benz we are talking about, we expect nothing but the best. Power train options are yet to be confirmed, although we expect a 1.8 liter four cylindered diesel engine, displacing 136 BHP, as well as a 2.0 liter petrol engine displacing 170 BHP. Higher end 2.1 liter petrol variants displacing 211 BHP are also available, even though we cannot vouch for their fuel economy on practical conditions.

Engine options are usually lifted off current generation vehicles. Therefore we have nothing of significant interest here. However, power to weight ratio on this vehicle is expected to be superior owing to its lighter chassis, body frame and high torque displacement. We are waiting for an official unveil in 2015, as we expect it to be ready for launch soon. Come back soon for more news and updates.
