Mercedes Benz SLS Electric Drive is a No Nonsense Electric Vehicle
|   Monday, August 12, 2013
When it comes to electric super cars, the Mercedes Benz SLS Electric Drive is the fastest there is. This in an interesting and outstanding vehicle and the figures prove that the vehicle actually performs what it claims. Mercedes Benz claims that the SLS Electric Drive accelerates from 0 – 60 MPH within 3.9 seconds, which is barely 0.3 seconds slower than the SLS AMG Black Edition.

This goes on to prove the exact performance capability of this car.
Sporting a top speed of 155 MPH, it may not be the fastest, but it definitely is the quickest. The SLS ALG Electric Drive weighs 2110 kg, which is approximately 560 kg more than its petrol cousin, although the performance figures are close to being similar. This proves exactly how powerful this engine is.

The SLS Electric Drive features almost similar designing trends as the SLS GT although from the mechanical point of view, both these vehicles are as different as chalk and cheese. The 60 kWh lithium ion battery pack is one of the heaviest in the range and weighs close to 548 kg. Behind the wheels, this car feels fast right from the word go. The aggressive nature of the Black Edition is present on this car and this owes mainly to the dynamics and engine capability of the car.

The total engine displacement is 740 BHP along with 737 ft lb of torque on the combined cycle and hence this is without doubt the most powerful electric propelled vehicle from Mercedes Benz. Acceleration is brutal when it kicks in while handling is a breeze. A slew of electronic drive train additions have been made to the car to enable drivers to actually control the vehicle without making a mess.

The feeling is deadly and you are bound to feel an adrenaline rush every time you are behind the wheels on an open road. Torque displacement is however quite linear and power is equally distributed in almost all gears. This makes shifting easy while leaves quite a lot on engine juice for the low, middle and top range.

Driving this car needs spontaneity as the electric drive train pumps up all the power at one go. It feels as if the entire power of a Bugatti Veyron is let out at one moment. The plain thought is nerve wracking. This is a true performance car from all directions and should encourage people to make purchases. Although the government is yet to announce tax benefits on the car, this is a completely environment friendly vehicle.

The first generation SLS Electric Drive will be based on an all wheel drive train. Power electronic measures ensure safety and advanced infotainment on board. Look no further if you are looking for pure pleasure and the thrill of driving. This is a very refined machine and the interior proves why this vehicle sports a grand price tag. The trim and upholstery level is rich while the quality of the parts is without doubt one of the best on class.
