Mercedes Benz showcases the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive
|   Tuesday, October 02, 2012
Mercedes Benz has moved a step closer to perfecting the standards of electric technology and merging the fine lines between cells powered cars and performance line vehicles with the introduction of the new SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive. The vehicle was just unveiled at the Paris International Motor Show 2012 and is priced at 416,500 Pounds.

The vehicle is no doubt the most powerful electric car in the world and the two seated vehicle has the same bodywork, exterior styling and technology used in the base model of the SLS AMG.
However, the major change between the vehicles is the improvement in the drive train in the vehicles.

The SLS AMG was first introduced back in 2009 and this is the only major upgrade that the vehicle featured within these past years. However, under the familiar chassis of the SLS AMG, the havoc change in the engine and power train measures is the major upgrade. The Coupe Electric Drive features a hi-tech drive train featuring electric motors at every corner of the vehicle and every battery kicks in at different speed limits.

The four motors together generate close to 740 BHP and 738 ft lb of torque and this is 17 BHP and 259 ft lb of raw power more than the base SLS AMG. The base model of the SLS AMG features a 6.2 liter powerful V8 engine and the supercharged petrol variant is not as powerful as the electric version.
The Audi e Tron which is in direct competition to the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive produces just 376 BHP and 604 ft lb of torque and this is not even remotely close to that on the SLS AMG. The e Tron goes on sale in the first quarter of 2013 and this is set to create a battle of the giants in the auto market.

The Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive features two separate gear boxes that provide power to both the axles individually and the Torque Dimension System monitors and controls the actual power transfer to each of the wheels. The vehicle features three distinct drive modes – sport, comfort and sports plus and the vehicle can accelerate from 0 – 60 mph in under 4 seconds.

The top speed of the SMS AMG Coupe Electric Drive is however electronically limited to 155 mph and this can be re tuned to increase the top speed. When compared to the base SLS AMG, which has a top speed of 317 km/h and accelerates to same speeds in 3.8 seconds, the efficiency of the vehicle has been increased.

The interior of the AMG SLS Coupe is well equipped with a host of electronic upgrades and the sound system of the vehicle is a thing to watch out for. The vehicle sports an 11 speaker 1 sub woofer system and when turned on, the cabin of the SLS AMG is transformed into an auditorium. The vehicle is better than most other vehicles in the world when we look at usability and the economy of the SLS AMG make it the sports car of choice.
