Mercedes Benz showcases the 2013 CLS Shooting Brake
|   Friday, January 25, 2013
Mercedes Benz is on a redesigning spree and the latest addition to the group is the CLS Shooting Brake. This all new four door Coupe features an uplifted exterior and is an upgrade to the five door sedan version of the CLS. The CLS was a unique design when it was initially launched and with the launch of the Shooting Brake, the uniqueness seems to have improved greatly.

The new CLS Shooting Brake is a dynamic ride and it blends in class and performance equally.
On the first look, the CLS reminds people of the E Class and is more realistic as compared to an S Class vehicle. The CLS Shootings Brake is the perfect length and does not feature a ridiculously long bonnet. The vehicle has been designed intricately and at its price point, it might very well be aimed at a niche market.

Although the aerodynamic sleekness of the CLS sedan will be missed and although the Shooting Brake calls for an overall upgraded ride, the ergonomics had to suffer. The rear overhangs look clumsy and the side panels fit the entire design perfectly. The CLS Shooting Brake is the widest vehicle based on its platform and Mercedes Benz had to redesign the vehicle to make it fit within the required space.

The mechanical aspects of the Mercedes Benz E Class vehicles have been utilized underneath the skin of the CLS Shooting Brake and the vehicle is expected to feature a more powerful power train. The standard air suspension system works like a dream and the hard braking ability of the vehicle is another positive point of this vehicle.

All engine variants will be mated to an automated seven speed transmission system and the most powerful among the lot is expected to be the CLS350 CDI diesel. The interior has received some serious upgrades and the practicality of the vehicle has been enhanced hence making it more usable. Leg, head and shoulder space is quite high and this makes the interior quite spacious. The driving position is however low, hence calling for a more comfortable ride.

The CLS Shootings Brake is not a performance vehicle and its interior portrays it in more ways than one. The executive feel is more precise as compared to the performance based feel and the minor details are quite evident. The roofline has also seen an extension and the boot capacity have also been considerably increased. The quality of the materials used along with the finish quality is quite impressive and the CLS Shooting Brake is better than most executive wagons on road.

The Shooting Brake is expected to be powered by a 3.0 liter diesel V6 powerhouse with the ability to displace 457 ft lb of torque @ 1600 RPM. The vehicle can reach 0 – 30 MPH in just 6.3 seconds. The figure is impressive considering the size and weight of the ride. The vehicle however needs advanced throttle mapping and power distribution is not as linear as expected. As a result unequal power distribution has to be dealt with.
