Mercedes-Benz S-Class Gets 4 New Versions In March
|   Wednesday, February 12, 2014
Mercedes will bring to the showroom four new versions of the S-Class starting this March. Among them we can find a hybrid diesel and the powerful S65 AMG.
One of the advantages of the S-Class has that places it ahead of competition is the extremely varied range of engines, always updated according to market requirements. Mercedes proves once again that the flagship can be powerful and economical with the introduction of four new propulsion versions.

The engines known to a large extent by the public will arrive on the market this March, immediately after they will make their appearance at the Geneva Motor Show. The list of future versions will have two derivatives with the BlueTec indicative.

The first one will be the S300 BlueTec Hybrid, a new form of hybrid, but powered this time by only a four-cylinder engine. It is a 2.2-liter diesel unit, producing 204 horsepower, and is assisted by a small electric motor going for 27 hp. The assembly allows for an average fuel consumption of just 4.4 liters / 100 km and emissions of 115 g / km. The version is available for both bodywork styles, with or without the increased wheelbase.

However, this unit cannot propel the vehicle on its own for any meaningful distance, quite different from the previously announced S500 Plug-In Hybrid. The electric motors assist the car when accelerating, and when in alternator mode it is used to recover braking energy.

The S-Class range will further receive the new S350 BlueTec 4Matic. This is a diesel engine of 258 horsepower, with an all-wheel drive, willing to provide 620 Nm and an average consumption of 5.9 liters / 100 km.

The S350 BlueTEC 4MATIC sis supposed to be shipped to local showrooms in the United States as a 2015 model. This means it will see 2015 model year upgrades that the S-Class will see, like a head-up display, touchpad controller, and the Collision Prevention Assist Plus safety system.

From the economic versions, we jump to the S600, an engine version unveiled earlier this year at the Auto Show in Detroit. Thanks to the V12 twin-turbo 6.0-liter, the sedan can hide under the hood 530 horsepower and a torque of 830 Nm.

Last but not least, also in March, the public will witness the most powerful S-Class in history. The new S65 AMG promises 630 horsepower and a torque of 1000 Nm. These values are produced by the same V12 engine. This engine is ready to provide an acceleration of 0 to 100 km / h in 4.3 seconds. The version is only available in the longer wheelbase variant and has a price of over 230,000 euros on the mother market, namely in Germany.

Also in March, the folks responsible for the Mercedes S-Class will also bless the model with a number of new technologies such as an electrically heated windshield, head-up display and touchpad. The interior will also be available in two new combinations of materials and colors.
