Mercedes Benz Replaces the SLS AMG with a Redesigned Model
|   Wednesday, July 31, 2013
Mercedes Benz has started testing the latest SLS AMG and this vehicle is expected to rival the all new Porsche 911. However, Mercedes Benz is not replacing the present generation SLS AMG with the newer model. Instead the company has designed a smaller vehicle to challenge the Porsche 911 in its own field. The new SLS AMG will be offered in both cabriolet and coupe body frames and is based on a rear wheel drive front engine platform.

The successor to the SLS AMG is expected to sport a price tag within £80,000 and £120,000 although it was initially expected to sport the SLC nameplate.
However, Mercedes Benz is likely to name this vehicle in the SL Class while looking forward to showcasing this vehicle by 2015. Mercedes Benz hopes that this vehicle will help them appeal to a larger segment of the population and the vehicle has been tuned and customized keeping that in mind.

The SLS AMG is codenamed the C190 and Mercedes Benz has designed the vehicle in a rather contemporary manner over the general retro theme which is expected to draw young buyers. The youth is a very important segment for any car maker and plays a very important part for car makers such as Mercedes Benz.

This car is awe inspiring and is expected to catch the fancy of the younger crowd, although the company is sure that the majority of the customers will be seniors. Designers claim that the latest Mercedes Benz SLS AMG does not sport the iconic gull wing doors. Instead front hinged doors have been added to the ride. The latest SLS AMG also gets a silhouette design although it is shorter than the last generation SLS AMG by quite a margin.

Mercedes Benz is yet to confirm power train options although it has been found that a 4.0 liter petrol V8 engine is likely to be offered on the ride. Mercedes Benz also plans on replacing the C63 AMG with a similar drive train. This engine ex expected be mated to a dual clutch seven speed transmission system. Insiders have disowned claims of a 3.0 liter twin turbo charged V6 engine being used to power this vehicle, which was initially rumored.

The V8 engine is a status which AMG plans on maintaining on the ride and that is exactly what customers demand from AMG. AMG ends all about performance and not fuel efficiency and as a result low power train options are least likely to be used. The overall weight of the SLS AMG is close to 1480 kg out of which 220 kg is rumored to be composed of aluminum.
This is also expected to be a rear engine car and as a result the weight distribution has been balanced. The aluminum parts are also rumored to be designed by Magna and this should be a positive side to the vehicle. Mercedes Benz could also be using the SLS AMG as a benchmark product against the Aston Martin Vantage.
