Mercedes Benz Plans on Rolling Out the Redesigned C Class
|   Tuesday, February 12, 2013
The Mercedes Benz C Class is vastly different from its predecessor. The vehicle is available as an estate, sedan and coupe based on the A204 series while the new generation will be based on the W124 Series. The C Class was last redesigned in 2007 and features a standard grille, camshaft bonnet with a single headlamp design. The new vehicle has been vastly redesigned from its predecessor and tells a whole new story on the inside too.

The vast variety of vehicles available on a singular platform makes the C Class quite unique in its own way while the chrome grille still features the Mercedes Benz logo.
The C Class estate is the most popular among the lot and packs in the most space in its segment. In 2011, Mercedes Benz was quite engrossed with the idea of redesigning the brand image. This laid the foundation stone of the current design of the C Class and the idea for the coupe was conceived.

Interior wise, the designing has been overhauled just like the exterior and there is no comparison between the two generations of the C Class. A foot operated parking brake has been installed to keep the protagonists happy while the sporty steering wheel, aluminum wheel arches and instrument cluster has been installed to render a whole new look to the vehicle.

The quality of the plastic used in the W204 is enhanced as compared to the W124 Series and this enhances the general aesthetics of the vehicle. The ventilation dials have been added to this vehicle and the weight has been reduced to increase performance. Mercedes Benz has threaded a long path into unknown territory to redesign the C Class and the vehicle feels strong and sturdy.

Head, leg and shoulder room have been increased over its predecessor and standard 16 inch alloyed wheels have been installed to enhance the braking capability of the vehicle. CO2 emission has been stalled at 125 g/km and that is considerably high for a vehicle such as the C Class. This plays a negative report when it comes to the ownership front as the Government does not grant special privileges for purchasing this vehicle.

The four cylinders Common Rail Diesel engine in the C Class is the most sought after the power train on the vehicle and different variants of this engine is installed in various vehicles. A 2.2 liter engine powers the C250 CDI while the C220 CDI is powered by a tuned version of the same engine. Power displacement and torque induction are different depending upon the models while the entry level model displaces 154 ft kB of torque and 201 BHP.

Steering the vehicle is quite smooth and different drive train systems have been installed in the different rides. While the coupe is quite powerful and features the best power to weight ratio in the C Class, the estate could turn out to be quite difficult to maneuver at certain speeds and road conditions. Each of the vehicles has been designed for specific purposes.
