Mercedes Benz plans on launching the 2013 GL63 AMG
|   Monday, January 07, 2013
With the introduction of the Mercedes Benz GL 63 AMG in summer 2011, there rose a great debate whether the designers and engineers at AMG had lost their mind. However the answer is no and this 550 BHP SUV is its greatest proof. AMG's first vehicle was called the Red Snow and this is the powerhouse that runs the vehicles from Mercedes Benz. The company is what it is today due to the performance geniuses back at work at AMG.

The GL 63 was basically a demure SUV and Mercedes Benz realized that to make this vehicle turn out to be interesting and achieve sales, the AMG engineers had to come up with something to increase performance and thrill of driving.
The answer was simple from the AMG side and the Mercedes Benz GL 63 AMG was born.

The vehicle is powered by a 5.5 liter V8 engine and the six speeds automatic transmission system has been upgraded and the engine has been fitted with a twin turbo charger system with adjustable dampers and suspensions. The brakes are carefully tucked away inside the 21 inch rims and performance wise, this vehicle has received a new boost of life with the upgrades.

The exterior has also received a comparative amount of changes and they include fascia changes, fender flares along with modifications to the interior and have had comfort packages installed. The GL 63 AMG is like the GL 63 expect for the fact that it rides, handles and performs better than its cousin and provides a much better and comfortable ride. This calls for better ratings and the GL 63 AMG has taken the GL class to a whole new dimension.

When the vehicle is packed lightly, the 550 HP of the GL 63 AMG is quite evident, which is 25 HP more than that of the Porsche 911 Turbo S. The GL 63 AMG weighs 5812 pounds and 0 - 60 MPH takes close to 4.8 seconds. This is quite exceptional considering the weight of the vehicle. AMG has installed a seven speed automatic transmission system in the GL 63 AMG and this has increased performance by a margin.

The GL 63 AMG is a purposefully aggressive machine and the suspension settings make it even more aggressive in terms of performance. The different drive modes also improve the ride quality and the ride is also quite balanced and feels safe. The GL 63 AMG feels no body roll and wheel spin is missing. These are the good parts of driving and make the SUV steer like a hatch back.

However, the ride is too close for comfort and the vehicle handles too lightly. This could be a reason for worry and with the active roll bars in place there should be no cause for the driver to worry about. The vehicle also has a load of air bags support and this further reassures the ride. The GL had a purposeful market share which is not expected to be transferred to the GL 63 AMG.
