Mercedes Benz launches the entry level A 180
|   Wednesday, November 21, 2012
Mercedes Benz has launched a vehicle in the entry level segment, priced at 20,000 Pounds. This is the most basic form of vehicle in the A Class and has been just recently introduced in the segment. The vehicle is powered on the revolutionary Blue Efficiency technology developed by Mercedes Benz and the vehicle is powered by a 1.4 liter engine directly lifted off the Audi A3.

This is the cheapest in class, even cheaper than the entry level BMW and to be honest it is better than a Ford Focus with the brand name of Mercedes Benz.
The trim level of the vehicle is quite advanced and the A 180 features a host of driving modes and although there is no initial hype surrounding the vehicle as it does not sport any premium tags like SE, Sports, Super Sports, AMG or Designed by AMG.

However, this vehicle has a place of its own; in fact this is the most practical Mercedes Benz at the moment. Even with the exclusion of sports alloyed wheels, high trim level, leather seats, classy finish etc; the vehicle has enough performance and economy features that can make it the ultimate car of choice for the common people.

A 1.6 liter turbo charged engine option is available on the vehicle which displaces 120 BHP and 148 ft lb of torque. The standard 15 inch wheels available on this car give it a simple yet fun appeal and the overall styling has been kept to a minimum to lend it a very professional outlook. Although it features the standard Mercedes Benz front grille, sharp head lamps etc, the vehicle looks cute and due to the presence of the smooth lines at the sides, the vehicle has a classy feel to it.

Although the handling and overall performance features on the A 180 is not close to that of an AMG, however it is decent enough to be used daily within the perimeters of a city or on freeways. The engine is refined and smooth and there is a minimum vibration. The vehicle is quite comfortable and the suspension system does a good job in holding the vehicle together. This vehicle instills more driving confidence and freedom than either a Volkswagen Golf or an Audi A3 and this is the primary reason why it is one of the best in the segment.

Interior space is high and the decoration has a standard quality. The materials used are of average quality and the vehicle does not feel plastic. Large knobs have been done away with and this is a good feature about the vehicle. The vehicle is quite impressive and considering the price bracket where it has been kept, it is definitely worth the money.

It is definitely a Mercedes Benz and that is the best reason why it is the best in class although it has worthy competition. This engine has a fuel consumption figure of 51.4 MPG along with Co2 emission of 129 g/km and these are quite respectable figures.
