Mercedes-Benz Launches New G-Class Professional
|   Friday, June 17, 2016
Hardcore fans of the Mercedes-Benz G-Class model now have reason to celebrate because the German automaker is preparing a special version. Although the bodywork lines have remained nearly identical since 1979, when the first G-Class came out of the factory gates, the inside and especially the engine were changed from generation to generation, to such an extent that the extreme off-roader has reached levels comparable to a luxurious and very strong SUV.

This is about to change, at least for a special edition. Mercedes-Benz has disclosed that the version aimed only at purists, called G 350 d Professional, will go into production.

We remind you that until 2014 there were two different models of the G-Class: the usual one, W463, and a simpler one, W461.
The latter represents a version adapted to people's needs, a genuine off-roader with no hint of luxury. Under the hood a diesel with 181 hp was installed. Unfortunately in December 2013, it has decided to cease production of this model. So, if you expect leather and luxury, this model is not for you.

The optional package "Professional Off-Road" is available on the G 350 d version, which will transform this model in that robust Geländewagen of olden times, the true off-roader which was ready for off-road action and adventure without fear of any obstacles.

For this purpose the model is equipped with "classical armor" in the form of protective nets for headlights, black 16-inch rims, shod in tires for rough terrain, sized 265/70 R16, towing hook, registration plate located on the top, enormous "bus" mirrors, matt mangle, and the generous mudguards.

The trunk floor is covered with wooden boards and has a drainage hole. Optionally, bumper steel with fixator for the winch is offered.

For better off-road performance the ground clearance has been increased by 10 mm, from 235 to 245 mm, and the angles of attack and escape were increased to 36 and 39 degrees, respectively. The new G 350 d Professional can carry a load of 592 kg, tow a trailer with a weight of 3,200 kilograms, climb a slope of 100 degrees, and can wade in a depth of 600 mm. A true Geländewagen for the purists!

Under the hood of the new Mercedes-Benz G 350 d Professional is a diesel engine with a displacement of 3.0 liters, developing 245 hp and 600 Nm of torque, and capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.8 seconds on its way to a top speed of 160 km / h and an average fuel consumption of 9.9 l / 100 km. The engine is mated to an automatic 7-speed transmission, 7G-Tronic Plus. Sales of the new G 350 d Professional started June 1st, having a starting price of 79.968 euros in Germany.

With the new G 350 d Professional, Mercedes-Benz representatives announce the introduction of the new multimedia system COMAND Online with 8-inch display and WLAN hotspot on the other versions of the G-Class.

These wanting to receive current information about traffic conditions, Live Traffic Information, smartphone connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as other goodies designed to increase comfort on board have to pay at least 90.636 euros.
