Mercedes-Benz Joins the World of Pick-Ups with X-Class Concept
|   Tuesday, November 08, 2016
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled X-Class Concept, a preview of the future medium sized pick-up. The company representatives confirmed rumors that have been circulating in the press, but have not yet revealed the final production model, only the concept car. It is called Mercedes-Benz X-Class and will share the same platform with the Nissan NP300 Navara.

It seems that the plans of Mercedes-Benz are quite big, considering the markets towards which their new car will go, namely Latin America, Australia, South Africa and, of course, Europe.
Mercedes-Benz X-Class will go on sale at the end of next year and will add, according to media speculations, more luxury equipment for the medium pick-up segment.

The model promises to be an interesting one and we are reasonably confident that the Germans will attract new customers, because perhaps the idea is appealing. The German automaker presented in an event that took place in Stockholm, Sweden, two model variants: X-Class Concept Powerful Adventurier and X-Class Concept Stylish Explorer.

The first version is the one dedicated to those who love off-road, and the second is for those who spend more time on city roads. While the X-Class Concept Powerful Adventurer is an off-road focused on a design that emphasizes the fact that a truck bearing the 3-cornered star can still be tough, the X-Class Stylish Explorer presents a refinement by which Mercedes-Benz will stand out over rivals in the market.

The Mercedes-Benz X-Class Concept has a daring design in the front part. Thin LED headlamps give it a sporty look, which is a little unconventional in this segment. The radiator grille is oversized and has a tremendous brand emblem.

Inside, the differences compared to sister platform on the Navara is still seen at first glance. The car benefits from high quality materials. The high resolution screen, centrally mounted, provides important information for the driver and thematic functions are controlled by a touch-pad through gestures, or just by entering letters and characters.

The flagship will be powered by a V6 diesel engine in combination with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive. The engine with high torque will provide dynamic driving both on road and off-road. The all-wheel drive system will combine a transfer box with reduction gear and two locks differentials. The traction system and electric lockable differentials transmit power on request to the axle with better traction. In the extreme off-road conditions, the rear differential and center differential can be locked.

Created on the platform of Nissan’s NP300 Navara, the first pick-up bearing the Mercedes-Benz name will have settings and design specific for the German brand, will carry 1.1 tons and will be able to trailer 3.5 tons.

Mercedes X-Class will be positioned in the segment with a very attractive price. The pick-up will be produced in collaboration with the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The production for the European, Australian as well as for the South African market will start at Nissan plant in Barcelona, Spain, in 2017.

The X-Class models reserved for the market in Latin America will leave the assembly lines of Renault’s plant in Cordoba, Argentina, starting with 2018.
