Mercedes Benz is Ready to Facelift the Next Generation S Class
|   Monday, April 15, 2013
Mercedes Benz has reworked the entire S Class lineup and the vehicles have not just been face lifted but they feature additional performance and luxury modifications too. The increasing importance of the Asian automobile market has led to this important transformation. The Chinese market currently accounts for a massive chunk of the global SUV sales. Mercedes Benz plans on tapping into this sector by designing the vehicles based on the requirements of the Asian market.

This is a strategic move designed by the company and the S Class – Codename W222 – features additional performance, luxury and rear seat spacing. These are some of the most important requirements of this market and Mercedes Benz wants to comply with the needs to make a mark in this untapped market segment. The special aspects of this vehicle are present on both the exterior and interior of the vehicle.

On the dashboard a 12.3 inch TFT screen is present which shows both the digital and analogue speedometer with an additional satellite navigation and advanced instrument cluster. The steering wheel design is the usual Mercedes Benz S Class dual spoke with heating ability and Mercedes Benz claims that this vehicle will also feature additional heated arm rests. The new climate control system in the vehicle - known as Thermotronic – is suited to function confidently even in the heavily polluted Chinese cities.

Two combined air filters are present which actively purifies and filter charcoal dust and dirt particles effectively. An ionizing system filters out various types if viruses and freshens up the air simultaneously. The dashboard design is quite advanced and is created at the Mercedes Benz studio at Como, Northern Italy. Mercedes Benz is planning to upgrade the luxury components of the vehicle apart from focusing on their technological aspect and the manufacturing restraint applied on the designers has been removed.

The door panel is the only plastic component used on the exterior of the vehicle while other components such as wood, plastic, aluminum and leather have been used on the interior. The shut lines beneath the trim parts are very tight and the controls have been pushed outward through the leather parts.

Only a close up view of the seat and the switch gear highlights the components of the detailing and Mercedes Benz has paid attention to minor details, an example of which is the introduction of the Burmester hi fi system, currently the range topper in its segment. The interior features Executive reclining on every seat and the back rest of the rear seat is capable of tilting exactly 45.5 degrees.

Mercedes Benz has always designed the S Class as chauffeur driven vehicles and the new settings and arrangements highlight the factor. The rear seats have integrated airbags and safety belts and this has been done to prevent rear seat passengers to slide out of place and be involved in an accident. The front seats are also 20 kg lighter and this has been done in an effort to enhance the customer attracting capacity of the vehicle.
