Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain To Hunt Volvo V90 Cross Country And Audi A6 Allroad Quattro Clients
|   Monday, October 24, 2016
Mercedes-Benz is in a great period in terms of sales and the premium brand from Stuttgart managed this year to beat direct rival, BMW and Audi in the official world rankings. And this is mainly due to the strategy of expanding the range, which was transformed in the last five years from an aging and sometimes exceeded bunch into a desirable one filled with models that have attracted young customers.

The development strategy of Mercedes involves not only the rejuvenation of existing models in the range, but also a frontal attack on some market segments in which the brand does not exist yet.
An example would be the coupe SUV area, where the new GLE Coup and GLC Coupe are struggling with BMW X6 and X4 models.

These are the same models with which the Bavarians marched all alone until now. Well, today we have before us a second Mercedes-Benz model which aims to cut a slice from a new segment: the E-Class All-Terrain, a cross version of the E-Class station wagons, which is designed to bite as much as possible from an area which until now existed only for Audi and Volvo.

Besides, the story of the new Mercedes E-Class All-Terrain is closely linked to that of the new Volvo V90 Cross Country, a direct opponent that was recently officially presented. So, the parallel between the new generation E-Class and the new generation Volvo S90 continues in all areas after the two models have been officially presented in January 2016 at the Detroit Motor Show.

Coming back to the new E-Class All-Terrain we are talking about a versatile car which is designed to gather customers who want more adventure from their family car. Many surprises at the aesthetic level are few and far between because the new model is an E-Class station wagon, spiced with shields and new spoilers with which it approaches the idea of an SUV, but without the massive allure of it.

Obviously, the E-Class All-Terrain borrows from its sedan and station wagon brothers all the design features for the interior, both technical and technological in nature. What differs is the increased ground clearance, the standard presence of the all-wheel drive 4MATIC, black arches for protective wings, the 19- or 20-inch dedicated rims, and a version of equipment that mixes carbon fiber with aluminum for the interior.

The All-Terrain has a ground clearance 2.9 centimeters higher than the model it comes from, the air suspension, Air Body Control, will give the driver if necessary the possibility to manually increase the ground clearance between 0 and 3.5 centimeters. In these circumstances, the ground clearance of the German model can be set anywhere between 12.1 and 15.6 centimeters.

The new E-Class All-Terrain will launch on the market with one motorization, the list set to be completed next year with new versions. For now, those who want an adventurous E-Class may rely solely on the E 220d 4Matic version, offering a diesel engine with a displacement of 2.0 liters developing 194 hp and 400 Nm of torque.

Mercedes announced that the average fuel consumption reaches 5.1 liters / 100 km, 0-100 km / h acceleration is achieved in 8.0 seconds and the maximum speed that can be achieved by the cross station wagon of the Germans is 232 km / h.
