Mercedes Benz Confirms Plans to Launch Next Generation G Wagon By 2017
|   Saturday, May 10, 2014
Mercedes Benz has announced plans to upgrade their 35 year old G Wagon, so much so that insiders are confident of turning things around completely with their new vehicle. Officials confirm that this vehicle will be available by 2017 and will feature radical exterior changes that is bound to attract buyers. This is a big move from the German car maker and a wise one too, considering the G Wagon's reputation of being stout!

It will be based on a wider and longer chassis, guaranteeing stability and usability.
However, we are not quite sure of its urban advantages, as it seems to be quite large from initial reports. The iconic look will be retained, which should be another major selling point for this vehicle. Mercedes Boss Andreas Zygan says that they need to be extremely careful with their heritage.

The 34th edition G Wagon - that was unveiled last year - was their best selling G Class vehicle till date. The German premium car making brand wants to preserve the G Class in every possible way, as it has a rich cultural heritage. Despite extensive body work and other upgrades on the G Wagon over time, its W463 Codename still sticks to it.

Greater use of aluminum is underway, which will further reduce weight, while ride height has been lowered by 10 mm, fir greater stability. Insiders claim that the next generation G Wagon is put on a diet, with weight loss greater than 200 kg having been reported. Its current generation model weighs 2570 kg, while you are free to do the math. We are expecting three or four link setup on its front end, while a modern electro mechanical feature is added to its rear end.

Despite various exterior modifications being made to this vehicle, they are not evident, as the designers have stuck to its original shape and size. Design cues could be borrowed from their Ener-G-Force concept that was at the Los Angeles Motor Show back in 2012. Insiders however are tightlipped about the fate of the next generation G Class, as we expect it to feature a redesign, just like their GL.

The interior will not just be space oriented, but will feature advanced interior trim levels too. Fittings could be borrowed from their current C Class vehicles, although this feature is yet to be officiated. Power is expected from as six cylindered 3.0 liter petrol and diesel engine, which will be unveiled in their upcoming E Class vehicle by 2016. The current generation G Class is powered by a range of diesel engines, displacing 360 BHP.

All engine blocks are to be mated to their latest nine speed 9G Tronic automated transmission system, which improves performance and fuel efficiency. Their Ener-G-Force concept was quite a luxurious way to travel, although we are not quite sure of what the production variant will be like. This long wheel base variant will be a potent rival to Range Rover's new vehicles and looks like the SUV market is getting ready to sizzle!
