Mercedes And Chinese Partners From BYD Launch Denza Electric Model With 300 Km Range
|   Sunday, April 27, 2014
Mercedes and its Chinese partner BYD unveiled at the Motor Show in Beijing the electric Denza model, the result of a joint venture started in 2012. The machine offers 115 horsepower and a range of 300 kilometers.

It was in the spring of 2012 when Mercedes and its Chinese partner BYD announced a joint model, fully electric at that too. Two years after the announcement, the two partners are already reaping the fruits of efforts with revealing a new zero-emission vehicle presented at the Auto Show in Beijing.

It's called Denza, and promises to come quickly into the preferences of the Chinese public. Even if it is an electric car developed in joint venture, Mercedes did not sacrificing quality, preferring to position the hatchback in the premium segment.

The Denza's sizes stand at 4642mm length, 1850mm width and 1642mm height, with the wheelbase standing at 2880mm.
Thus Denza benefits from 18-inch alloy wheels, a touch screen with multimedia system, wood inserts and leather upholstery, even for the first level of equipment, called Lifestyle. The top Equipment, named Executive, adds xenon headlights, a sound system signed by Harman / Kardon and a navigation system.

The propulsion is provided by an electric motor capable of developing 115 horsepower and a generous torque of 290 Nm. The unit is kept alive by a lithium-ion phosphate battery with a capacity of 47.5 kWh. This can guarantee the full autonomy of 300 kilometers, which is quite a lot considering the BMW i3 offers up to 160 kilometers. Unfortunately, it can only reach maximum speed up to 150 km / h
.
After depleting the battery pack, the Denza can be fully recharged in seven hours at a household outlet, or just an hour from a specially created system. Daimler officials in China are enthusiastic about the launch of the new model, anticipating that their market will become the most important in terms of absorption of such models in the coming years.

"Daimler is constantly moving forward with emission-free mobility; and with our DENZA we are also on the right track in China, which is destined to become the world's most important market for electric vehicles", stated Hubertus Troska, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG with responsibility for China, and Chairman and CEO of Daimler Greater China. "With DENZA we deliver the safest, most reliable, and most convenient electric vehicle to our Chinese customers – designed, engineered, and produced in China, for China, once again proving our full commitment to the country."

"DENZA is the first complete vehicle that Daimler has developed together with BYD outside of Germany and it is undoubtedly one key pillar of Daimler's electric vehicle strategy in China", declared Prof. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Research and Development. "No compromises have been made to design and develop, in China, an all-electric car that raises the bar in its segment. We assure our Chinese customers the highest standards of safety, paired with maximum convenience, outstanding reliability and unique driving fun as part of a superior overall concept."

The EV will sell for 369,000 yuan (42,700 euros), before subsidies apply. It is eligible for government incentives ranging from 111,000 yuan to 117,000 yuan only in six cities: Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Tianjin.
