Mercedes-AMG GT R - A Green Beast With 585 Horses Under The Hood
|   Thursday, July 21, 2016
If you had the feeling that the Mercedes-AMG GT is a perfect car, the newly appeared GT R will be a real revelation. At the motoring event Goodwood Festival of Speed which took place on the estate of Lord March, right next to the headquarters of Rolls-Royce, those present enjoyed a lot of spectacular apparitions, which included the Mercedes-AMG GT R.

The car is one oriented towards race tracks, is extremely special in its range, but is not a series model from the Black Series.
However, the 600 horsepower do make it a true monster on the road and some say the car could be the bridge between normal versions and Black Series version.

With better aerodynamics, more power and a fresh layer of paint, the Mercedes-AMG GT R resembles other GT R cars, such as the GT3 RS from Porsche, or maybe even the Corvette Z06.
Agile handling and high speed stability when cornering were the priorities for the German engineers in the development of the Mercedes-AMG GT R.

The bodywork has been flared, making it possible to increase gauge width, which increases stability. The front spoiler has enlarged cutouts to cool the engine more efficiently and is provided with louvers that direct the air. An additional lip spoiler improves the air pressing on the front axle, which is again beneficial for stability.

But an even more important role in this respect is an element that weighs 2 kg, is made from carbon and is positioned virtually under the car before the engine. In the Race run mode at 80 km / h it goes down to 40 mm, and creates the Venturi effect which sticks the car to the road.

Specifically, it reduces the carrying capacity on the front axle with 40 kg at 250 km / h. This innovation was designed first with a computer, was optimized in the wind tunnel and then tested on the Nürburgring track, dubbed the Green Hell, and offers superior stability that the driver feels through precise steering behavior.

The V8 engine with a displacement of 4 liters with two turbines and direct injection develops 585 hp at 6,250 rpm and 700 Nm of torque between 1,900 rpm and 5,500 rpm. These resources are directed to the rear axle and allow a sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 318 km / h.

In tune with the new performance, the dual-clutch gearbox with 7 speeds has been reviewed by AMG to withstand the stresses of the track. To rein in the motorized beast, Mercedes-AMG has equipped the GT R with brakes which are internally ventilated and perforated discs with 390 mm in diameter for the front and 360 mm in the rear. Optionally, it can mount brakes with ceramic discs, which have a diameter of 402 mm front and 360 mm rear and weigh 17 kg less.

All these specifications were improved during long tests on Nurburgring which justifies why the Mercedes-AMG GT R is offered in a special color called "AMG green hell magno", indicating a green finish to hint at the forests on the circuit.
