McLaren Working to Reveal the P13 and P15 Hyper Cars within the Next Few Years
|   Saturday, June 07, 2014
McLaren plans on unveiling their P13 sports car at the Geneva Motor Show 2015, which is expected to be held next spring. This vehicle will sit between the 650S and 12C variants, while featuring an approximate price tag of $125,000. The P13 is similar to the $195,000 650S, in terms of dimensions, although, numerous additional features, puts the 650S, higher up McLaren's hierarchy.

Like its elder sibling, the P13 is a two seated, mid engine vehicle, with extensive use of carbon fiber tubing.
It is built around a smaller chassis, although interior space is not affected much, due to advanced designing principles. If insiders are to be believed, the P13 will be a more practical buy, as it has a roomy cabin, with sufficiently high storage space, along with a major boost in performance.

On the exterior front, this vehicle is not that different from the 650S, which enhances its aesthetic appeal. Hence, if you are intrigued with the way a 650S looks, you will find solace in the P13. Moreover, it saves you close to $70,000. However, if money is not a problem, you could opt for the big brother, despite McLaren's P13, being an overall winner.

McLaren Design Chief Mike Flewitt says that, mid engine vehicles, designed on McLaren's current generation platform, will look similar in most terms, as it is difficult to get maximum utility and performance, along with visual appeal, from multiple vehicles, based on the same platform and looking for similar features. This vehicle is expected to be fun to drive and safe at the same time, intimidating drivers at all times.

Powered by a twin turbo 3.8 liter V8 engine block, the McLaren P13 is capable of accelerating from 0 – 60 MPH within 4.0 seconds, sporting a top speed within 185 MPH, which is slower than the 650S's top speed of 207 MPH. You get what you pay for and McLaren proves that once again, with their range of vehicles. The McLaren P13's primary rivals in range include Audi R8 V10, Porsche 911 GT3, Ferrari California and Porsche 911 Turbo S.

McLaren also has plans to launch an upgraded P15, in 2017, while plans are on, to help this vehicle stay ahead of market competition. McLaren's P15 will sit on top of their 650S, featuring a base price within $300,000 - $400,000. Flewitt however claims that this vehicle will not be replacing their P1, even though both are expected to feature multiple similarities. McLaren has plans to expand its range soon and we could soon be witnessing an average annual production capacity, within 4,000 – 6,000 units.

Another interesting revelation that has come in recently, claims that all future vehicles from McLaren will feature a hybrid power train, even if it means implementing basic forms of hybridization. Downsizing current generation models is also possible, which would focus entirely on agility and performance. If you are looking for a vehicle powered solely on electricity, you need to wait, as McLaren has no such plans for the immediate future.
