McLaren unveils the designs of the new concept 12 C CAN AM
|   Saturday, August 18, 2012
McLaren has unveiled McLaren GT, its new racing outfit and the group is set to launch the designs of their new racing lineup vehicle at the Pebble Beach Concours - the new track centered 12 C CAN AM Edition. The concept has made its official launch outside Europe and this is not a first for McLaren.

The 12 C CAN AM Edition bears a striking resemblance to the McLaren 12 C and the patented orange and black finishing to the car is the highlight of the scenario.
The orange paint scheme is in honor of Denny Hulme and Bruce McLaren, two very successful McLaren drivers of the 60s.

The contrasting color scheme is the highlight of the car which lends certain boldness to the external features of the car like the roof, the bumpers and doors. The use of carbon fiber and satin black color scheme features on the car's side mirrors, engine cover and radiator shafts and this lends the car an overall aggressive aspect.

The McLaren badge on the car's front and rear end are also done up in carbon fiber and beneath the chassis the 12 C CAN AM sports the same Mono cell engine as that of the 12 C on road car.

The 12 C CAN AM is just a concept at this stage and it is being designed as the ultimate track car. The car is being subjected to all the rules of the racing fraternity and designing cues have been taken from the 12 C GT3 track vehicle.

The CAN AM weighs just above 1,200 kg from its designs and this is an innovation on itself. The powerful V8 engine of the vehicle produces a massive 630 HP, the most displacement by any 12 C till date.

Teams from the McLaren Racing Formula 1 technology have been charged with designing the exterior of the vehicle and the aerodynamics of the car is top notch. The down force produced by the aerodynamics is controlled by up to 30% with the help of the rear spoiler and this helps the car stick to the ground even at high speeds.

The car has been fitted with an overall performance package and this includes a frontal fiber splitter, fiber dive plains and a carbon fiber rear wing at the rear. Polished aluminum surfaces further enhance the aerodynamics of the vehicle and the two tone rear bumper fits perfectly beneath the rear exterior.

The 12 C CAN AM is set to be fitted with standard Akebono brakes and the high performance brakes sit strongly behind the black alloy wheels of the vehicle. New Pirelli racing stickers complete the exterior look of the car and the slick tires provide visual relief too apart from its performance enhancing side.

The 12 CAN AM is race ready from the interiors as well, sporting a dual tone leather finish seat cover with full six pointed harness inside the cabin. A race specific roll cage has also been installed in the vehicle and an integrated race specific air conditioning system is also present in the vehicle.
