McLaren unveils the all new 12 C Spider
|   Thursday, August 30, 2012
McLaren showcased its growing presence in the luxury super sports, street legal car models with the launch of the second super sports vehicle this year – the McLaren 12 C Spider. The vehicle was unveiled at the Concours d'Elegance held at Pebble Beach, San Francisco during the Gooding and Company Auction in Monterey.

The car was on display the entire week end and it received accolades for its beautiful design, superior performance and luxury interiors.
The 12 C Spider is built on a light weight frame and it has an engine meant for high performance. The engine produces 616 HP and produces high torque even at low RPMs.

The car features a mono cell chassis and a retractable sun roof which can be lowered while on the move. The 12 C Spider performs at par with the 12 C and the cars are astonishingly usable with spectacular performance.
The 12 C Spider starts from a base price of 195,000 Pounds and is available at all McLaren dealerships across UK. Advance bookings are open and the numbers of inquiries are surprisingly high and deliveries are expected to begin by early next year.

The car on display featured a dramatic yellow paint scheme and this model received more response than the previously showcased 12 C GT3 CAN AM which was also showcased at Pebble Beach.

The 3.8 liter V8 twin turbo engine on the 12 C Spider channels the 618 BHP to the rear wheels through a seven speed SSG transmission featuring dual clutches. This helps the driver shift gears at lightening fast speeds with the help of the shift pedals placed behind the steering wheel.

The McLaren 12 C's M838T engine is visible through the tonneaue cover glass panel at the rear of the vehicle and it enhances the meanness of the vehicle. The car features a list of dynamic technology which includes Pro Active chassis control, brake assistance and steer control, and an innovative McLaren air brake for emergencies.

The car performs and handles like a track car and is quite smooth on track. Driving the vehicle on open stretches of the road is a heavenly experience and the suspension offers magnificent comfort on most terrains.
McLaren is the pioneer of using carbon fiber on vehicles and needless to say that the 12 C Spider features a carbon fiber rich exterior. Some interior parts are also made of carbon fiber and this reduction of extra weight is good for the performance.

The wind screen behind the seats can also be raised and lowered automatically but the lowering disturbs the car's balance and top speeds while in motion. The rear window can be lowered any time to allow the engine's ruff roar to flood the cabin and the area below the rear window can also be used as a luggage storage space.

The Spider also features an additional roll over cage and this is to protect the driver and the passenger in case of a high speed mangle. The steel structure is capable of absorbing the excess vibrations during accidents and the air bags provide additional safety.
