McLaren All Set to Showcase the P1 at the Geneva Motor Show 2013
|   Monday, March 11, 2013
McLaren's future flagship model, the P1 is set for a grand launch at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The P1 seems to be the first hyper car that promises to deliver Formula One like experience on the road. Formula One Cars have been the fastest vehicles in the world for the past one hundred years and people have been craving for a street legal version of the vehicle for quite some time now.

The P1 is expected to be launched by McLaren Chairman Ron Dennis next week and the vehicle is powered by a huge V8 engine displacing 903 BHP.
Sporting a price tag of £866,000, the P1 is beyond the reach of most ordinary men and is the spiritual successor of the 1993 McLaren F1.

However, the P1 is different from the F1 as it sports a ground breaking aerodynamics package, quite unknown to the world back in the days.
With a drag factor of just 0.39, the P1 is one of the most aerodynamic vehicles on the road today. The P1 is capable of automatically deploying the rear mounted spoiler ahead of the front wheels and develops an awesome amount of down force when the vehicle is in speed. For a street legal car, this is more than what the customers wanted.

With a company claimed top speed of 218 MPH, the P1 is capable of generating 600 kg of down force at speeds much lower than the actual top speed. The recently launched McLaren MP4 12C was the breathtaking flagship vehicle from McLaren till now. However, the P1 is set to change all that and more. The P1 is designed for the track and is a great performer.

The vehicle was tested at test tracks as well as in wind tunnels and its true capability can be witnessed only on the track. The all carbon fiber chassis and body structure of the P1 gives the vehicle an added advantage against its rivals and the lightweight body with the immensely powerful engine gives this vehicle an incredible power to weight ratio.

McLaren has infused the P1 with race bred technology and this is expected to give the vehicle an added edge in the market. Bookings have begun and there is quite an amount of demand for the P1, especially with the car collectors and speed buffs. The battery pack has been stored under the hood and this is a great space saving measure. Although the interior has not been revealed, experts say that they expect it to be quite spacious.

The P1 features an increase in its length by 300 mm and is wider than the original concept design of the P1 showcased two years back. The overall weight of the car is 1400 kg while that of its nearest rival, the Porsche 918 Spyder is 1700 kg. The P1's power train is the result of a special partnership between the McLaren built electronic motor and the twin turbo charged V8 engine. Overall, the P1 will definitely set the Geneva Motor Show on fire with its launch.
