McLaren 570S Could Be The Name Of Future Entry-Level Model
|   Monday, April 06, 2015
McLaren will officially expand its range of supercars at the New York Auto Show, scheduled in April (April 1 to 12, 2015). The American event will mark the birth of a new sports model, the first of a new range, more accessible, named Sports Series.

It will be positioned below the current Super Series range, which already includes the 650 S, 625 C and 675 LT. The Sports Series' first model was already anticipated by some teaser images, but so far there have not been many rumors on its final name.

However, as we approach the release date there are indications that the car will be called McLaren 570 S, as a reference to the resources hidden under the hood: which means 570 horsepower. The same method of baptism was used in the case of the 650 S, equipped with 650 horsepower.

The 570 horsepower under the hood result from the V8 engine, present on the 650 S too but modified to deliver fewer resources. The engine will be centrally located, in bodywork built around a safety cell from carbon fiber. The new McLaren 570S uses the same V8 twin turbo displacing 3.8 liters from its older brothers, 650 S and P1 hypercar and will provide an output around 570 hp (419 kW). This engine will be centrally located and the power will be sent to the rear wheels via a dual clutch transmission with 7 speeds.

The coupe will target models like the Porsche 911, Aston Martin V8 Vantage, or Mercedes AMG GT, and try to become a McLaren volume sales model. The British expect to sell between 2,000 and 2,500 units per year, much more than the figures recorded by its big brother, 650 S, in 2014 (1,600 units sold worldwide).

At its launch the sports car will be offered with a solid fixed roof. In addition, in the near future a Spider version is also planned. Rumor has it that a GT derivative will be introduced, which will be the most practical version, as it will provide more space in the trunk. In addition, a more hardcore version is also planned and we can also expect a Long Tail later.

Acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h (62 mph) should take place in less than 4 seconds and the top speed will be around 290 km / h (180 mph). Prices for the model should start at 180,000 dollars.

While all this is going on, the company just finished making 375 P1 units, is about to complete 40 P1 GTR units and will look closer at its next Ultimate Series car.
CEO Mike Flewitt: "I've always said we won't want to make a P1-and-a-bit. The next Ultimate Series McLaren has to take a very significant step over what we have. There are several directions we could take. One would be finding ways to get more weight out of the car's structure. Another would be to take advantage of more power-dense battery packs if they became available. And there's always the promise of better aerodynamics and better software. But it could take 10 years. After all, the leap from F1 to P1 took 20."

CEO Mike Flewitt denied the idea of a McLaren SUV. "We have no such plans. We are totally committed to making sports cars."
After the global launch scheduled in New York, the McLaren 570 S supercar is expected to debut in Europe at the AutoRAI event, held in Amsterdam between April 17 to 26.
