Mazda showcases the technologically advanced CX-5
|   Wednesday, August 08, 2012
Mazda has been awarded the highest vehicular safety award due to the immense safety standards implanted in the CX-5. NCAP, a major European car safety organization has praised Mazda for its effort to try and reduce catastrophes on wheels.

The CX-5 has already received full pointers for its pedestrian and passenger safety measures and is vying for the top spot in the race for overall protection. The latest autonomous air braking technology, used in the CX-5 is in the forefront of the campaign as it is one of the best technologies we have today for pedestrian safety.

The European car safety council had tested the CX-5 in all the European Safety Standard measures and surprisingly the car fared better than most European manufactured vehicles. Surprisingly, the council was so engrossed by the air braking technology, that they want it to be a standard feature on all European vehicles post 2014.

Mazda calls its air braking system the smart city braking system and the CX 5 is one of the highly engineered vehicles in the British market that is focused on safety. A recently concluded survey points out to the result that the air braking system can actually cut out number of accidents by 27 percent.

The city air braking system can stop a moving vehicle from maximum speed of 19 mph and the system makes use of laser technology to detect the presence of mobile vehicles up in front. On sensing vehicles on very close distances, the fuel is cut off immediately and the brakes are applied simultaneously. This helps the car avoid hitting the vehicle is front as well as prevents rear collisions, which are the most common types of road accidents.

An independent survey has also shown than 72 percent of all European vehicles do not have air braking technology in them and 66 percent of all new models are not offering this technology hence, the rise in the number of road accidents. Air brakes are scheduled to be installed in all cars by 2014 and this is scheduled to reduce road accidents by 50 percent post 2020.

Mazda is ahead of the present technology in providing air braking assistance and SKYACTIV in the CX-5. With the use of this technology, the CX-5 saves up on a considerable amount of fuel and reduces Co2 emission. SKYACTIV also enhances performance due to better vehicle weight distribution and advanced aerodynamics apart from the enhanced manual and automatic transmissions and reduced chassis mass.

The Mazda CX-5 advanced crossover is available in the UK since May and it is the first of the new generation Mazda models. A faster implementation of modern technology usage is sure to improve European safety standards in the future and Mazda has set a good example for other car manufacturers to follow in.

The CX-5 is already hugely successful in the United Kingdom and it is soon to be launched in other countries with a few minor modifications as per the need.
