Mazda 3 Gets Minor Changes, But Interesting Technical And Technological Changes
|   Thursday, July 28, 2016
One of the most popular Japanese models refreshes itself this fall but customers will have a car almost identical in terms of aesthetics. However, the car will be superior in terms of road holding and is also more efficient from a technological point of view.

Three years after the launch of the new generation, Mazda 3 receives a minor aesthetic facelift, doubled by a series of technological updates which align the Japanese car to the current market requirements.
The changes are valid for both body styles, hatchback and sedan.

The aesthetic changes are rather sketchy, the most visible being the appearance of a new front spoiler that stands out through the chrome area, which connects the optical blocks with the grille. The rear spoiler is slightly changed, but the untrained eye will never see the difference between pre- and post-facelift version.
Inside, the changes are also rather subtle: apart from a new steering wheel, a few inserts on the dashboard, electronic handbrake on the top versions, and the improved color Head-Up Display system, things remain unchanged.
The most important addition comes in the technical area.

Mazda announced that the Mazda3 facelift will benefit from the appearance of the G-Vectoring Control system (GVC). This is a system that uses a computer to coordinate the steering angle, and the torque transmitted to the wheels when cornering in sporty mode.
In this mode, the car has better control of the lateral forces which press upon it.

In short, GVC simulates a better distribution of the mass when cornering, limiting torque sent to driving wheels, and thus placing the weight on the front wheels. Mazda says that it worked 8 years on this package that enhances the car's dynamic behavior.

Other technical improvements involve the adoption of an advanced package for automatic braking in the city. Now the Mazda system is able to operate between 4 and 80 km / h (previous speed segment was 4 to 30 km / h). Moreover, the package is officially called Smart City Brake Support and can recognize pedestrians and brake automatically if needed.

Mazda 3 2017 will be available with adaptive LED headlights (ALH), including a system without reflection for the high beam that provides superior nighttime visibility without dazzling other road users, and an automatic function of adjustment.

In terms of motorizations, the SKYACTIV-G petrol range (a displacement of 1.5 liters, 100 hp, and the 2.0-liter units have an output of 120 and 165 hp) or SKYACTIV-D diesel with a displacement of 2.2 liters and 150 hp, will be complemented by a new diesel engine with a displacement of 1.5 liters, which develops some 105 hp. So far, this engine has been used on the Mazda 2 and CX-3 models.

Mazda models equipped with diesel engines will benefit from a more precise control of propulsion, which will improve the provided throttle response. The system is also accompanied by a specific innovation that reduces diesel detonations (Natural Sound Frequency Control) and extends another technology (Natural Sound Smoother) to all diesel models.

The European debut of the new Mazda 3 facelift will take place this autumn, after the car will be presented at the Paris Motor Show.
