Maserati to Showcase the Ghibli Sedan at the Shanghai Motor Show
|   Saturday, April 20, 2013
Maserati is set to showcase the new Ghibli at the Shanghai Motor Show and the first official pictures of the vehicle was unveiled prior to the official unveil in China. The Ghibli is slated to be one of the most prominent and important creations of Maserati leading to the new era of vehicles from this Italian carmaker and the company sure seem to be prepped up regarding the upcoming challenge.

The Ghibli nameplate was last used by Maserati back in 1997 although the new vehicle does not have any particular similarity with the old vehicle.
The Ghibli will rival vehicles such as the Mercedes E Class and the BMW 5 Series. The Ghibli is based on a shorter platform than the one used on the Quattroporte and the company plans on selling close to 50,000 units of the vehicle by 2015.

The Ghibli was designed at the Maserati plant near Turin – the Quattroporte is manufactured at the same venue - and hence certain similarities are found within the models. The Ghibli is expected to measure close to 5 meters while being placed on a segment below the Quattroporte in terms of the price point. The Ghibli in fact will be the cheapest Maserati in the market.

The UK is set to receive three distinct engine options – two variants of an entry level 3.0 liter turbo charged diesel V6 (the first production ready Maserati to feature a diesel engine) and a 330 BHP displacing petrol V8 (expected to be launched post the diesel alternative). The diesel engines feature a 410 BHP displacing unit along with a 330 BHP displacing unit, both priced below the £60,000 region.

Both engine options were the brain child of F1 expert Paolo Martinelli who was the greatest treasure in any team during the era of Michael Schumacher. Every engine option will be mated to an eight speed ZF automatic transmission system with paddle shifts and the UK will receive a special right hand drive version of the cars, the basic specifications remaining same. The Q4 all wheel drive system will also be installed in the vehicle although it will be available only with the high powered petrol engines.

Deliveries of the first batch of cars will start is summer this year while the first batch of right hand drive vehicles could take some time to reach the market. The interior is expected to be a notch above normal vehicles considering the fact that the Ghibli is a creation from Maserati. The use of classic Italian leather is a must while attention has been paid to every minor detail regarding the car.

Details regarding the interior have not been announced and hence it is premature to comment on the setting as of yet. Maserati has however fixed a date with the organizers of the Good Wood Festival of Speed 2013 and the Ghibli is set to make a special appearance at the event. This could be a major platform for the vehicle in gaining mass popularity and support.
