Maserati plans to reveal its new flagship model, the Quattroporte
|   Wednesday, November 07, 2012
Maserati has revealed the all new Quattroporte. This is very well set to be the flagship product from the celebrated car maker and has the potential to kick started the company's plans to reestablish the brand as a premium sports car maker. Maserati had sold just 6200 units in 2011 and with the launch of the all new vehicle the company expects to increase the sales by close to 800 percent at 50,000, by 2015.

This is the sixth generation of the Quattroporte and the vehicle will be showcased at the Detroit Motor Show 2013.
Maserati is also planning to launch the Ghibli by late 2013 and this vehicle will be in direct competition to the BMW 5 series. Maserati also plans to launch a premium segment SUV, the Levante and if these plans are executed successfully, it is just a matter of time before the brand reestablishes itself.

The 2014 models will include diesel engine variants and this is the first time Maserati will install diesel engines in any of its vehicles. None of the official details have been divulged as of yet and the insiders are quite tight lipped about the possible outcomes. The next generation of the Quattroporte will be based on a whole new platform and as a result the wheelbase will also be increased to 5200 meters from the current 5052 meters.

This means more leg room and head room apart from more luggage storage capacity. Maserati needs to make a huge impact in the Chinese market if it hopes to improve sales by 800 percent and as a result the vehicles are being designed keeping in mind the needs of the Chinese market. The vehicle will feature overall high aluminum usage and as a result the total weight will be kept close to 1940 kg, down from the previous 1990 kg.

A 4.7 liter V8 engine producing 453 BHP is expected to be powering the Quattroporte and this will be more powerful and more economic than the current engines used on the Gran Turismo. Standard XF and ZF automated transmission systems will be mated to the engine hence improving power development. The Quattroporte is expected to sport more powerful engines in the future and this is just a speculation at the moment.

The designing of the vehicle has been done extensively by the design group from Fiat Automobiles and as a result a lot of minor changes are visible on the vehicle from that of the previous generation. The Quattroporte will be available at first with a standard rear wheel drive technology and details of other drive train features are currently being kept under wraps to avoid excess hype at the moment.

The interior is basically unchanged with the exception of a few modifications which have been done to suit the current trim settings. High quality materials have been used on this vehicle and the overall finish quality is excellent. This is expected from Maserati as the company claims to manufacture premium segment sports vehicles.
