Maserati Gran Cabrio - a Practical Cruiser
|   Sunday, July 14, 2013
Maserati's latest offering, the Gran Cabrio may not match up to the performance of the Porsche 911 Cabrio or the Mercedes Benz SL although it is a better looking vehicle. The Gran Cabrio is powered by a 4.7 liter V8 engine developed by Ferrari which makes the Gran Cabrio accelerate from 0 – 60 MPH within 5 seconds. The vehicle is quite spacious and provides a comfortable ride for long distances.

The Gran Cabrio is also a very versatile vehicle and sports a price tag of £100,000.
Apart from the fact that this is a very smart looking vehicle, the designing trend needs special mention. The triple front air vents along with the front wings provide a large spaced front end. The Gran Cabrio MC is the top of the line model and features a heavily worked exterior.

This vehicle is highly aerodynamic and is designed to perform under high speed and stability. The front and rear end of the MC has been modified along with the new grille and the bumpers and this gives the vehicle a very compact yet aggressive look. The interior is completely handmade and this gives the MC a rich feel. The level of luxury and refinement provided by the Gran Cabrio is high although the design may seem a bit dated.

However, the buttons will let down a bit and the controls for the satellite navigation and stereo are a bit out of place. Maserati is offering the Gran Cabrio with just one engine option – the 4.7 liter V8 engine, displacing 434 BHP. The sportier MC however displaces 454 BHP. High end torque displacement is quite high although this is one of the best sounding engines from Ferrari.

The MC features a loud exhaust note which is one of the most breathtaking in its segment. The Gran Cabrio does not just ride well it is one of the best sounding engines in its class. This is a lightweight and agile vehicle although use of better brakes is recommended. The current batch is quite incompetent and takes close to a few seconds to bring this two ton vehicle to a complete halt.

Although the Maserati Grand Cabrio suffered in the beginning, the current batch is quite well received. Even though it does not have the practicality of any other vehicle in its class, the Gran Cabrio packs in the most space in its class. The convertible is also highly regarded and the cabin is spacious enough to accommodate people over 6 feet high. However, the boot space measures just 173 kg and this is a bit frustrating as the Gran Cabrio is meant to be a cruiser.

The Maserati Gran Cabrio is not easy on the pockets and this vehicle returns just 14.5 MPG with a total fuel capacity of 75 liters. However, this should not matter to people who opt for the Gran Cabrio. Overall, this may not be the most high performance vehicle in its lot, but it does have a great ride quality and is the best cruiser in class.
