Maserati Announces Plans of Launching the Levante SUV by 2015
|   Sunday, June 16, 2013
Maserati claims that the soon to launch Levante will sport the perfect Italian balance between the BMW X6 and the Porsche Cayenne. The Levante is scheduled for an early 2015 release and is a much anticipated SUV from Maserati. This vehicle features a muscular profile with an athletic styling while featuring the perfect road dynamics. This will also be the first production SUV from Maserati.

The exterior designing elements is rumored to have been borrowed from the 2011 Concept Kubang SUV although the actual style has not been mindlessly copied.
The Levante will be powered by a 3.0 liter V6 petrol engine displacing 410 BHP as well as a twin turbo charged 3.8 liter diesel V8 displacing 530 BHP. A third engine will also be on offer in the form of a 3.0 liter turbo diesel V6 engine displacing 271 BHP.

The third engine has been on offer exclusively for the European market and a Europe specific eight speed automatic transmission system is provided as standard on every engine option available with the Levante. The Levante is also based on an all new all wheel drive platform which is also used to design the latest Maserati Quattroporte and the Ghibli as well as the Audi Q4.

This all wheel drive however needs minor modifications to suit the drive ergonomics of the Levante. Maserati plans on utilizing the vital information gathered by sister concern Jeep, in order to design the Levante and remain highly dependent on the jeep for guidance related to off road travelling. The chassis and body structure of the Levante will be based on that of the Ghibli and the Quattroporte while some of the electronic components will be borrowed from Jeep and Chrysler.

The underpinnings of the Levante are somewhat similar to that of the latest Jeep Grand Cherokee although the similarities end there. However, unlike the Quattroporte and the Ghibli, the Levante will concentrate more on weight saving measures such as the use of aluminum wherever possible. The suspension has also been tuned and this makes the vehicle easy to handle as well as improving the comfort level of the vehicle.

The Maserati Levante was originally scheduled to be built along with the Jeep Grand Cherokee at the plant in Detroit. However, there were a sudden change of plans and Maserati will not be manufacturing the Levante exclusively from Italy. This according to the company will help maintain the standard of the Levante and help the top official keep tab on the quality of the parts and the overall finish quality of the Levante.

Although the Levante is only ready on paper, a test mule is expected to be ready by the end of 2014. People have been speculating about the Levante for a long time although no specific proof was available in the past. The renderings of the car seem probable and practical although people need to wait for a while before prominent news regarding the Levante pops up. The hype around the first SUV from Maserati is already on a rise.
