Maserati and Volvo Plan on Changing the Design of Their Next Generation Vehicles
|   Saturday, August 03, 2013
The next generation Maserati Gran Cabrio and Gran Turismo will feature an all new design and styling and will be a level above the current generation 2 + 2 vehicles. The recently unveiled Maserati Ghibli, Quattroporte and the Levante have been based on the new design although the exterior sculpture is a little different than what Maserati expects the next generation to be. The current range of four seated vehicles will finally be replaced by sportier models.

However, Maserati explains that the next generation Gran Turismo and the Gran Cabrio are based on a new design which will enhance the way the car is perceived. The new range of vehicles will be more compact than the current generation and this as a result will enhance the handling of the vehicle.

Although the chassis and wheel base are expected to remain the same the dynamics of the vehicle has changed for the better. The designing palette was built on an additional range although officials decided to use it on the current generation of vehicles. The introduction of two seated sports cars to the range might not be accepted well with the people genuinely interested. The Maserati range will be competing against the Alfa Romeo 4C and the 8C Competizione. A Limited Edition model is also expected to arrive soon.

Volvo is looking forward to designing an XC40 compact SUV although this model could take up to five years to be fully commissioned. However, Volvo plans on designing this vehicle on a new platform as the current range of available platforms is not sufficient to support this vehicle. A new SPA platform has been designed by Volvo and its new Chinese owner Geely and this is termed as the suitable platform for the XC40.

This platform needs further testing to settle down into the practical world and the engineers are running the tests on the platform to ascertain its practical aspects. Volvo expects the new XC40 to be a range topper and will give considerable competition to the Range Rover Evoque and the Audi Q3. Volvo is looking to develop cross country SUVs and the XC40 could be the first such SUV from its lineup.

This vehicle is creating a fresh hype in the segment and the company plans on keeping it alive till the vehicle is showcased in its concept form early next year. A launch date is expected only fall 2015 and the bespoke model is rounding off a large amount of engineering. The front wheels and the underpinnings of the A Segment vehicle features on the XC40 and this is evident from the way this SUV sits.

The suspension and adaptive dampers have also been modified and this is expected to be stiffened in order to enhance handling as well as comfort in the cabin. Although the drive train measures are yet to be announced, use of four cylindered engines are expected to be powering the new XC40 although the mechanical components are not yet ready to be announced.
